My last post was 11-12-2004 “Buy 04 or 05 RT”.
Well I waited and I bought my new 2005 R1200RT home today.
Dark Graphite Metallic
Gray Seat
Chrome Exhaust
Oil Level Warning Light
Heated Hand Grips
Cruise Control
On Board Computer
Radio/CD
Engine Spooler Silver
Clear Turn Signal Lenses
Anti Theft Alarm
My RT had 11 (eleven) miles on it when I picked it up and it had 115 miles when I got home, I went the long way. To describe my impression in one word “sweet” in two words “real sweet”. I am amazed at the power and performance of this machine. This is my first BMW and it is apparent that BMW really has something here.
I bought the first loaded R1200RT delivered to Miller BMW Motorcycle www.millerbmwmotorcycles.com in Tallahassee Florida. The owner Dusty Miller was a great help and I am thoroughly satisfied with my experience with the dealership. Dusty and his number one Tech Wayne went over everything I needed to know.
I will make additional post as I learn more about the motor. The one thing I can say now is that I know why this motor comes with cruse control as standard equipment. The RT likes to go fast, real fast and without cruise control it is hard to stay at a reasonable speed.
Just sign me

Congrats on your new RT! :clap

good luck with your new ride. i just ordered one today, the same color with the black lower portion. i had posted that i got a quote that was just out of this world ( i was getting everything on the bike ) and i was looking at getting a ducati st3. i took it for a ride today, figuring that i would place an order for it. i couldn't get used to the riding position. i knew i wouldn't be able to do the miles i normally do in one day with that bike. i decided to get a less equipted bike and look for accessory vendors to add later. the bike i ordered is pretty much like yours, i didn't get the electronic suspension ( i run works shocks now and i love them) nor did i get the bmw gps. i ordered a 2610 with a 2 gig card and a hardwire cable for $825 from gps city. i have a givi tail trunk, so i'm going to just get a new mounting kit for the r1200rt and take it off my r1100rt, so i saved on the bmw topbox. i did go for the bmw radio, just because it was easier to do so (but $1450 didn't exactly give me a warm and fuzzy feeling), i will tie all these together with an autocom system. i will add an escort radar detector and maybe a j&m cb later on. i'm excited about getting the new bike since my r11 has given me many years and miles of great service (it will turn 77k miles this weekend) the bad news is that i will proberly get delivery of the new bike some time in july. the good news is i still love my r11 so it's no biggy. :thumb
Congrats, bklyn! Wow...three months sure is a long time to wait. I'm not sure I could do it.

Bklyn pete it’s worth the wait. I waited 7months and I am glad I did, otherwise I would have regretted it forever. It’s a lot of money and I decided to get what I wanted.
I saw a sight in a motorcycle shop last week that read, “Motorcycles are like women take the one home that you can’t live without not the one you can live with”.
What type of CB are you going to mount? I will need to add a CB and have no idea where to find one I can mount.

Hey FHP0400, you mentioned cruise control... I don't mean to open a can of worms here, but the general consensus is that you need to constantly vary your engine RPMs during break-in, so you shouldn't really spend much time on cruise control. Forgive me if you already know this.

Yes I know, I just had to try it out for a mile or two. After today’s ride I have 160 miles on the bike and have not held it to a steady speed longer than a mile at the time. I will be glad when this bread in is over. But I do understand the importance of the proper bread in.
Congrats on your new purchase. Now, aren't you just a little ashamed for riding an ugly bike ?

i am looking at the j&m cb/weather channel setup. i'm a bit worried since the last time i tried hooking up a cb i could hear, but couldn't transmit. the antennea was trimmed and i attached the lead to a steel plate for a better ground, but still no go. i wound up taking the cb out of my rt. i may have to ride to sierra electronics in ohio and have them do the install, since there really isn't anyone here in my area that really knows about cb's on bikes.

It is good to know so many guys are taking the choice, you are going to love it!
Just be shure not to flush too much water over the leftside of the gas tank cover, it gives problems.
Enjoy! :rocker

What about Max's in New Hamster?
why, are they known for their cb work? if they are, it would be a shorter ride for me. of course, that's not always a good thing. :brow
