What are your favorite LOCALLY-OWNED eateries. Those of us planning spring/summer/autumn rides for 2012 would appreciate your update.
Here are some of mine:heart:

Look for the places that have lots of work trucks parked outside. The more ladders, the better.

Great blog! I noticed you hit Sonora... A bit south is Mariposa. a few great restaurants there. Savoury is fine dining, Charles Street Dinner House is steak, Pony Expresso is local coffee with local pastries, plus, for a sandwich to take into Yosemite, try Deli Garden Cafe at the River Rock Inn. They also do dinners some times. Just don't go to Pizza Plus for pizza... They have great breakfast & burgers, but the pizza stinks compared to Pizza Express...

Yep, pickups out side of small greasy spoons is always a good sign. Get off of the bypass and head into small towns.

There are some websites dedicated to non-chain restaurants:
http://www.roadfood.com/
http://www.unchainedworld.com/
I can't vouch for their choices, but it's a good place to start.

the concept of eating well (IE: NOT "fast food") on the road has been kicked around here and there. this is certainly a valid point for discussion at any time!
i love small mom-&-pop joints. any number of- or type of, vehicles parked outside such a place is sure enough an indication of good eatin within. the only other sure thing is that good food will rarely be found at an exit off a freeway or interstate highway- you really do have to go into town- and it is most always worth it to do so.

Any 'El Taco' in Springfield MO area...counter service only, no waitress, no alcohol, best hot taco sauce anywhere! A local owned chain. A small off shoot of their parent restaurant, Mexican Villa, but I think its better.
Caspers Chili in Springfield MO. Closed from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Expect to wait for a table. Its inside an old quonset hut. Just eat and enjoy, don't ask to many questions or get to curious about the kitchen though...It's GREAT about once a year, that'll do you for awhile!
Look up 'greasy spoon' in the dictionary, and this place will be pictured!

If you are ever in the North Carolina mountains around Jefferson or Sparta make a detour to Shatley Springs. They serve lunch and dinner "family style". You sit down at a table with a group of folks and the food starts coming out - Country Ham, Fried Chicken, corn on the cob, green beans, mashed potatoes . . . . . . ! Just make sure to leave room for dessert.

I hesitate to recommend the Shack in the Back, in Fairdale, KY, mainly because I want to keep it to myself and those who ride with me. They make you sit ourside under a canopy, with (at last count) 5 home-made sauces for your 'cue. Various items on the menu, including burgoo, and pretty good sweet tea. All served by high school cheerleaders. Terrible place. I guess I'll just have to keep going back there until they get it right.

This is great !!!
I have suggested that they put this in the Magazine, maybe do one State/Province a month it would be great, I could visit some of these places while on the road and know what they are like before I get there
I do fallow Roadfood.com but it is not really related to motorcycle touring type food spots.
I would like to see and articles on motorcycle food the best camping spots and maybe through in the best roads for each State/ Province.
There are lots of fabulous places that we miss, I did the Notches Trace last your did not even know about it till I stayed with other touring people and found a great restaurant in Lawrenceburg TN. I think it was the Taste of the Town.
Keep it up people Maybe we can get to know some of the great spots in North America to travel! :clap:clap

I had breakfast here on the way to the Gaspe.
Very nice food, very well presented, incredibly attractive waitresses, and much local charm. Perhaps the best breakfast along the road I've ever had.
I don't remember the town, but I'll always remember the restaurant and the pleasant experience I had.
Quebec is a great place to find a good meal.

Not a great website but the beer was fantastic. Watched some of the food coming out from the kitchen- "WOW!" Had the Reuben- one of the best I've ever had.
