Hello all. my name is Jeff Wahl. I'm a rider from Loveland, Colorado. I'm new to the forum, although I've been a BMWMOA member for a number of years. My current rides are a '99 1200LT and a '01 1150GS. It's my first LT, I'm still feeling her out. She's growing on me. My previous rides have been a F650 and a R100RT. I bought the LT used. It is the focus of my questions here.
To my question, can anyone give me some feedback on the arm rests for the 1200LT? My wife falls asleep quite often on the back while riding. She is worried about staying on the bike, although I've told her I've never heard of anyone falling off of the bike from sleep.
The bike has a vibration point around 4700 to 5000 RPM. Is it just my bike or do others do that? It is only around that range.
I have an ipod that I want to replace the 6 disc CD player with. The previous owner had a BMW headset communicator system installed in 2001. I'm having some trouble getting the ipod to play through the aux input jack on the communication system. I didn't get the manual with the commication system. I tried a cassette adapter and found that it works that way. Talking to my local dealer, I found out that the aux jack is not volume/speed compensated. Perhaps the cassette adapter is the way to go since is volume compensated through the stereo system. I got the pertainent page faxed to me to try and figure out what's up with the aux jack.
The back brake sucks on this bike. It has a nasty sounding screech at a light pressure that goes away when more or less pressure is applied around the screech point. The back brake is not nearly as strong as the GS. I've used brake cleaner on it. I've heard a softer brake compound may resolve the situation. It's pretty embarrasing to come up to a light and make so much noise. I realize it's a heavier bike, but still, that should be engineered into it.
Thanks. I hope to jump in more often. We have been having super riding weather around here.
