Last year, John Barry brought several of his own special home brewed beers for us to enjoy. There was none left.

Jerry Duke is the organizer and does a great job with this.

Last year was my first time going and this year Barbie is going with me.

These are great rates and the location is a wonderful place to be in December. No crowds; just the beautiful low country to ride and enjoy.

This is a good event and the boil last year was a lot of fun.

For those who haven't seen Civil War era cannon demonstrated, the events at the nearby fort are a recommended entertainment.

And there is always downtown Savannah, etc.

For those of you who have had enough of the low quality farm raised Vietnamese shrimp sold by Red Lobster, WalMart, etc- this is a good chance to pig out on local wild caught stuff.

Jerry, Becky and I are going. She'll have her R1100S and I probably be on my RT unless I bring the K1200RS instead.

For those of us who prefer not to be on Facebook, please post the Friday and Sat might events/times/prices when you can. About the same as last year or something different?

Friday night we'll gather at StingRay's Grille and Bar next door to The Dunes.
We're hoping to have a ride Saturday, but nothing set for sure right now.
We have a Facebook page, IBMWR Low Country Boil
Join us there and get up to date info.
Saturday downtown Savannah will be decorated for the season and will also be First Saturday on the Riverfront.
http://www.riverstreetsavannah.com/
And also City Market - http://www.savannahcitymarket.com/ - nice place to take a carriage ride.
And you can always just wander around historic downtown Savannah. Plenty to see and do.
Other places to visit:
http://www.mightyeighth.org/ - Mighty 8th Air Force - museum about the 8th Air Force from WWII
http://www.nps.gov/fopu/index.htm - Fort Pulaski - historic fort on the way to Tybee
http://tybeelighthouse.org/ - Lighthouses? We got one! Care to count the steps?
http://www.thecrabshack.com/ - want to eat among 'gators'? Don't eat too much, save some room for OUR "Boil".

But what ever you do, be sure and get back in time to gather at the Tybee Gym for the LOW COUNTRY BOIL.
We should have the table setup about 5 pm for sitting and talking so many of you can reconnect with past and future friends.
The "Boil" will be served about 6 - 7 pm. Since the cook does this for free, patience is suggested.

I forgot to mention that anyone who has gear/parts is welcome to bring them to the boil on Saturday night. There will be a table to display the stuff you want to sell/swap.

We've run into our first problem....
The Tybee Island Arts Festival pulled rank and took over the cafeteria.
Plan B.
We now have the Memorial Park Pavilion. Because it's basically a covered patio, we need to move the Boil up a few hours so we have plenty of daylight. The Pavilion is lighted, but just to be safe....
Anyway, so now the meal will be served about 4 pm.
The new location is the Tybee Island Memorial Park Pavilion, behind City Hall (facing Butler), between 4th and 5th.

Please spread the word.

Barbie actually got all of her clothes for the weekend stuffed into one pannier. We are headed out for the SC low country today. There is a street faire in Walterboro, SC tonight and we want to spend some time with our old roomie who now lives there.

We will see everyone for lunch Friday.

Ride with caution; remember the roads are full of distracted people who now have one more thing on their minds...holiday shopping.

from Da Bunny on Da Beeg:

Two days to go!

The longest continually-held Internet BMW Riders' event is back for a
seventeenth year. The Ride To Savannah will be held from Friday,
December 2nd through Sunday, December 4th on Tybee Island, Georgia.

Once again The Dunes Inn on Tybee Island is our motel of choice. Below

There is a change to this year's venue. The City of Tybee pulled rank
and let the Art Association have the cafeteria where we usually have our
Low Country Boil.

We do have reservations to use the Memorial Park Pavilion. It's located
behind Tybee Island City Hall (403 Butler) between 4th and 5th Streets
(the new location is in the same block as the cafeteria, just to the
north side). While it is lighted, it's not enclosed so we need to move
the eating time up to have daylight and warmer breezes. We plan on
serving the Low Country Boil between 3 and 4pm this year. Since the cook
does this for free, patience is suggested. Don't fill up at lunch...
leave room for the shrimp and fixins.

As always, Jerry Duke will be wandering around the Dunes Inn parking lot
Saturday morning so find him if you have any questions.

Visit our Facebook page or feel free to email Jerry Duke at
jerry.duke@gmail.com

Rode up to Tybee Island Friday and met many of the folks that attended last year. We renewed acquaintances, shared stories at Stingrays Grill & Bar, and made plans for riding Saturday. I got up somewhat late, walked over to the Sunrise Cafe for breakfast and headed out to The Mighty Eighth Museum. I have not stopped to visit the Museum before but was glad that I took the time Saturday. The museum is privately funded and chronicles the history of the Eighth from its inception in Savannah in WWII through Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, up to the present. For Military Veterans and History buffs this is a must see museum. Be prepared to spend 4 to 5 hours and do not overlook the grounds where mememorials to those that gave all are spaced along a reflecting pool, fastened to ivied brick walls, and placed in fitting tribute to our veterans past and present. Many trees have been planted in memory of loved ones lost and a small Chapel built to resemble those found in the English Countryside has stained glass windows that are quite beautiful. These windows document and celebrate the contributions of The Mighty Eighth to the Allied Victory in WWII. A B-17 is being restored before visitors eyes in the center of the main building. Workers from Gulfstream Aviation have donated thousands of hours restoring this famous aircraft and many more thousands of hours will be needed before the job is completed. The varied contents of the museum uniforms, dog tags, archival films/videos, photos', personal belongings, models, etc are testimony to the sacrifices made for our country. One of my uncles was a B-24 waist gunner in the Ploesti Oil bombing raid and completed 16 missions over Europe. He has passed on now but I'm left with the feeling that I should have got to know him better after seeing the museum.
The low country boil was held outside under a Pavilion this year. The food, home brewed beer, and camraderie was the perfect ending to a great day, my thanks and congratulations to the IBMWR and all those who make this such a great Rally.
