MY bike didn't come with a whole lot of information so when I saw the number 36 written in white marker or paint on the rear drive I piqued my curiousity.
Does this mean anything? It there a 3:36 rear drive on the K75?

Final drive on a K75 should be 3.20.....32:10. It is stamped on the top of the final drive near the vent, I believe.

My guess is that your rear drive has been replaced with a used unit. Many salvage yards will use paint of various colors to identify units based on mileage, model or inventory numbers.

this is just legend, but i hear that Franz, the guy who installs rear drives at the factory, writes the number of steins he has drained that day on the final drive of every fifth bike he works on. you just got lucky to see the number!
in other places, you might hear someone make a smart-assed remark like, "it's the 36th final drive the bike has had." :D

I thought it was the number the guys at the factory were betting on for the "failure pool". Kind of like the Come-don't Come line in craps. The number is 36K. If the final drive fails BEFORE that, that money wins. If it fails after that, that money wins. Sadly for most K bike owners, the odds are 2-1 for failure BEFORE that number! :thumb
