I have a 1996 RT 1100 with 60k, when the first batterie started dying (4 years) the ABS would set and the red indicator lites would blink, after riding a short while, I could turn off the key and resart with no problem. So I replaced the battery, (not a gel) end of problem..for one year, now with year old battery(checked at Engle BMW told still good) when I start out the ABS indicators flash and I have to ride a couple miles befor I can stop, turn off the engine and restart with no indicator flash. I have bought the "official" BMW battery charger and even comming straight off the charger I have the same problem.
Any thoughts out there?

Assuming the BT light is green when you take it off - :p - have you checked your sensor gaps and such? Also, do you run auxilliary electrical gizmos which could be drawing the battery down a bit?

Sounds a lot like something's sapping that battery, even if it tests "good".

Not sure I understand how the ABS "sets" even though the lights are blinking... shouldn't do that as far as I know. Are they flashing together, or alternating?

A 96 with only 60K might just be grumpy about not being ridden enough :brow

:thumb Get to your battery terminals, clean battery terminals and wire conections, use a small wire brush, file, knife blade, the conections need to be clean. then tighten with wrenches, tightenening with a screwdriver is not good enough.

I had a 95 R1100R and lived with the flashing ABS light problem for about a year. The mechanic kept checking the battery and telling me it was good. it was a Westco and am not sure how old it was. A new battery fixed the problem. Although your battery is relatively new, if its not the charging system or corroded terminals, my guess would be its the battery again. If a conventional battery, check the fluid level. Good luck.

I think that is the problem, so I guess i will buy another battery. I don't run any aux exuip, and the sensors where checked in august.

I Have Had The Exact Same Experiance As You. Replace W/new Bmw Batt. Still Lites Flash That Abs Has A Fault. I Can Reset The Fault And Ride Off And As Long As I Don't Switch Off For Gas,etc. It Will Work Fine. Dealer Says It Shows Pump Is Bad And Thats $1600.00 ! I Have Checked Everything Else Possible And It's Out Of Warr. So Either I Pay,or Ride W/o Abs Or Try To Beat Bmw Into Fixing For Good Will, etc. Nobody Will Buy Another Anything If It Hits Them W/that Bill W/only 15k On A 2000 R1150gs. I Just Can't Beleve It Went Bad At The Time The Battery Needed Replacement And Don't Like Riding W/o Abs After Having It. After Much Complaining To Bmw Customer Service, they Agreed To Pay Half [$800.] But Local Dealer Folded ! I Feel They Should Warr. This Safety Option That Is Not A Wear And Tear Item W/ So Few Miles On Bike ,no Matter Being Out Of Warranty. Good Luck, check Sensors, fluid Level, etc. Yours May Be Just The Battery.
