Fellow G, and possibly F riders, I'm wondering about the way the mirror mounts on my bike are set up.

It's a little hard to see in this photo, but when my clutch and brake levers are roughly parallel, the left mirror mount is angled toward the front, and the right mirror mount is angled toward the rear. It looks like there is a good 15 to 20 degree offset between them.

I've never seen mounts on any other motorcycle I've had that didn't keep the mirrors in the same relative position to the levers.

Can anyone explain why BMW designed the mounts this way?

Heh, answered my own question.

After looking at the mounts some more, it occurred to me that maybe they had been swapped right to left. :scratch

I removed the mirrors, then removed the mounts and switched them side for side. I lined up the mounts with the marks on the handlebars, tightened them down, and re-installed the mirrors.

Voila! the mirror stems are now parallel! :thumb

I'm guessing the person who assembled the bike out of the crate got them mixed up. What surprises me, though, is the salesman I bought the bike from had ridden it daily for a few weeks to get the mileage up (it was a demo, and they needed to sell it) and didn't notice the discrepancy. He seems like he's pretty meticulous about his bikes and their set-up. :dunno

Welcome to therapy. You talk about your problems and then end up solving them yourself by talking them over. One big difference. No bill.
