I own a new R1150R.I am interested in opinions and personal experience on the purchase of an exhaust system that would permit the use of a larger BMW case. Increased torque in the mid-range and a sportier sound would be an asset.Staintune,Remous,ZTechnik are possibilities but I have not met a user of any of these products. Opinions please.

I don't know how many miles you have on your 1150r ,mine seemes to have broken in nicely @ about 25k...uses less oil, idles better, pulls harder ..Ibalanced the throttle bodies @ 20k checked them again @ 30 and they're still spot on...I also wanted a full sized left bag so I used a wudo kit that lowers the pipe & fits the mounting for the biger bag..so far so good...I'm in the process of building a cat eliminator, primarily to lose some heat&weightfrom the bike&preserve the cat for resale ,they don't last forever...as soon as mud season ends here & the glacier melts in the driveway I'll know better about the cat projects outcome...

I have a D&D exhaust on my 96 1100RS and I like it's thoaty purr. A girlfriend of mine has a Staintune on her R1150R and she loves it, mainly for the sound.
As far as more torque in the mid-range, I suppose that's true, but the bike came with the aftermarket exhaust on it so I don't know what it's like without it. I'll find out soon though because I'm taking the D&D off and going back to stock because it's loud. Too loud.

MS.Thanks for the tip on the wudo kit.It may be the answer for a larger bag and save me the expense of a new exhaust system. It is NEW..only 7262 kilometers ,approx 4500 miles .I compare it to my 95 R (45kmiles) which I sold.
no surging, smoother trans, improved suspension, and less vibration at high RPM.I dislike looks of the cat and would love to eliminate the extra wt.Keep me posted on your mods to the cat.
Boxergrrlie.I would be currious to know how the stock pipe compares to the D&D in the mid-range.Advise if you make the mod.I'm still on the fence when it comes to noise from the pipes.I don't like annoying people but car drivers are certainly aware when Im out riding with some of my H friends.Besides ,I've always been a sucker for the low growl of some sport pipes.
I installed a Ztechnik on my '96 RT and am very happy with it. It did not make it loud, but gave it some authority and improved the mid-range power a bit. Losing the weight of the cat., did not hurt either. It did seem to add to the backfiring on throttle roll-off. Just put in a techlusion chip and now enjoy smoother delivery of power across the board and almost completely eliminated backfiring. :clap

Another muffler option would be a "supertrapp" as they are tunable you could add or subtract discs toget the sound you like..
