Oil question..sorry if its been posted already

My R1150R needs topping off. I'm guessing that it needs no more than half a quart. Probably less. The oil was last changed at the BMW dealership here in Dallas where they use 20W/50. I have a couple of quarts left of a Castrol 10W/40 synthetic motorcycle oil (pricey stuff) that I used to use for my old Honda CB1000.

The questions:
- Any problems using it to top it off?
- Any problem with mixing it generally?
- What do dealerships use: synthetic or not?

Dino, unless you specify synthetic, and you could mix them anyway with no problems.

Someone will probably know the answer to your question, but my gut reaction is that oil is cheap and engines are expensive, so pick up some 20-50, you will need it for the warm months ahead anyway. Safe riding!

Maybe it's just me.....but I never tire of oil questions. ;)

Full synthetic, or conventinal, multi-weight or straight.....mix away. :thumb
