All of my manuals recommend Threebond 1207 B sealant for mounting the oil/water pump assembly. Since ThreeBond only sells direct it is not available here in the USA.

1) Is there any reason that Permatex RTV sealant will not work in this application?

2) Has anyone tried or used Permatex's new product Called "Great Stuff"? Sales propeganda says it is meant for foreign vehicles which typically use smaller sealing flanges.

Thanks to all

Hi Roy..

1. Nope. Should work fine, but don't put too much on. You don't want a goober (tech-term) getting loose and plugging an oil passage.

I usually use "Yamabond" - available from your friendly Yamahahaha dealer. It is the same stuff as Three-Bond. Let it dry overnight before filling the coolant.

2. Dunno. Haven't used it. Permatex is usually pretty good stuff in my experience.

Best,

I purchased a tube of 3Bond years ago from the local dealer, still using it.
Other products will work fine if used sparingly. The dealers number is 816-241-7554 if you can not find it at your dealer. I use a lot of Lock-Tite brand sealants too, never had any problem with those, and you can find them anywhere.

I use Threebond #1104 on my engine assy. with no problems. These are non-BMW, but aluminum just the same. It's available at most cycle shops. Yamabond and Hondabond is the same stuff.

Another one made by Permatex is what they call Silicone Ultra Grey (or black, blue, etc.). I have used it for years and find it nearly identical to Yamabond or Hondabond yet available at Schucks/Kragen, Car Quest, etc.

The key to any sealant usage is the cleanliness of the surfaces being sealed. I use Brakekleen or contact cleaner for the final cleaning.

I would like to thank all of you for your input and help. I ended up using the the permatex Ultra Grey. Once I get this bike back in one piece I will let you know how it worked.

P.S. Don't drop the oil pressure switch cause it breaks. :cry
