The day I sold that Duc I was due to have my head examined, but I forgot to go.

Of all the bikes I've owned, this one (well this one, and/or the GS1000S Wes Cooley Rep...) is the one I'd most like to have back. That 900 Duc was a fun ride and also nice to gaze upon while it was hiding in the garage during the depths of winter.

Oh well, live and learn...sort of! :dance

Cheers!

I go by Rocketman on the GS Forum. Wanted that same handle here, but there was already another "Rocketman" on MOA, so I had to add the li (for Long Island). That's my story and I'm sticking to it. And now that I know who you are, I definitely remember reading many of your posts over there. The world just got a lot smaller....again! As a matter of fact (depending on how long you've been there), remember a guy about 5 years ago named Doug Mitchel contacted us on the GS site about writing a new book about Japanese bikes? Well, my bike is featured on pages 228-229 of his book "Standard Catalog of Japanese Motorcycles 1959-2007". Guess my 'Zuke now has its 15 minutes of fame.

Boy, those pics of the Suzook GS's bring back memories. My first new street bike was an '80 850G, subsequently owned one more of those, 2 GS1000G's, and a Wes Cooley Rep as well. My wife rode an GS650G for a couple of years. Took me a long time to get me off a Suzook, pretty much bullet proof with the exception of the regulator/rectifier problems.

And the GS850GL, Suhweet!

Cheers!

PS...but none of those machines compares to my '04 R1100S!

I didn't want to get my 1985 K100RT al dirty so I bought this V-Strom for a trip to Alaska. My friends said that it was so ugly that it looked evil. So I named it Vader the V-Strom as in Darth Vader. One picture is leaving and the other is returning from Alaska. It went though several car washes before I got home but there was alot of dirt on the inside. It was a good choice for the trip. It's slow...it handles like 1936...every train track crossing is an adventure...zero wind protection...feet forward posture guarantess a sore butt after 200 miles...cleaning it takes a week...

...but I love looking at it...I love the sounds it makes...I love the conversations it draws from old guys...and I love watching the springer front end as it pogos up and down as we go down the road.

XR650L...D606s...oversized tank...jet kit...air box mod...Corbin seat...aftermarket pipe...tail rack...heated grips...TAG bars...this is my dirt road exploration bike...comfortable enough to ride from sunrise to sunset...enough space to hold some rain gear and lunch...and cheap enough that I don't mind taking some risks with it. Simply a great bike until you come out of the woods 200 miles from home and you want to take the tarmac back...then the wind will toss you all over the road...tires make a ton of noise...no wind protection...obnoxious exhaust note...minimal lighting...and truly sketchy at speeds above 75. I do enjoy the wheelies though:evil

My 17 year old giving his grandmother, who has dementia, a ‘ride’ on the back of one of our Twinstars at her 90th birthday party. When my sons were learning to ride, I found two old Twinstars (an ’80 and an ’81) for them to learn to wrench on. . . and we restored them completely. Great experience and they both do their own maintenance now.
My mom isn't ‘in the present’ very often these days, but she seems to have fond memories of my dad's Indian from the 1950’s. When she saw the Twinstar at her party there was no stopping her —“I WANT A RIDE! I WANT A RIDE".
They went only about 10 feet with people on both sides holding her on, but she was happy (the Twinstar, not so much. . . rear fender is on the tire here).
Wil rides a Ninja now, no shorts or bare feet.
