Ok,
Although I've had the K bike for a few months, this is the first I've put it on the sidestand.
IT really seems vertcally challenged to me. When I set it on the stand it looks like the bike could fall over and any minute.
IS this as long as it get?
If so, are there any aftermarket extensions out there I can get?
(good thing this is a bike forum or I really could get a complex with those questions!)
Thanks

Could be that the stand's bent. Take a close look.
If it is, check out the "cheap" fix at this link:

I also don't like the way my 91 K100LT leans on the sidestand. It seemed to get a lot worst when I installed an aftermarket shock. The shock must be a little longer. Also, I found mine bent. I heated it to staightened it. It made a big difference.

Very true - a longer rear shock makes the bike lean more (as will more preload on the front springs) and conversely - shorter/less makes it lean less.
That said - I have never heard (I'm sure I will now..) of one falling over due to leaning too far if parked on a flat solid surface. If you think about it - the triangle formed by the sidestand and the two wheels is much more resistant to things like high winds or soft surfaces than the two closely spaced points on the centerstand. I almost never park on my centerstand except in the garage (on a nice rug on the concrete floor)... I've seen too many bikes on their sides at rallies after a bit of rain and wind that were parked on the centerstand.

I also felt uncomfortable about what seemed excessive lean when on the sidestand. (I think the Ohlins shocks are slightly longer than stock.) I thought the stand ought to be a little longer.
I found a cheap nylon cutting board at the hardware store, about 3/8" thick. I traced the shape of the sidestand foot, and cut out a piece. The pop riveted the piece to the bottom of the sidestand foot. A little filing was needed on the back edge of the nylon pad, for clearance.
Now the stand's 3/8" longer, and the bike sits at what is (for me) a more comfortable angle.
