I have to say I have an 03 K1200GT and have had nothing but trouble .. it is now just finishing its second year and I never got to ride it much last year due to it being in the shop.

this list is extensive from leaking engine seal, bad shock, bad black box, bad clutch master cylinder, lights not working all the tim (intermittent), mirror falling out, leaking gearbox drive sea, leaking belly pan, heated seat stopped working and heated grips not working. the list goes on and on >>>

would I get another??? well that is the question I love the ride and the feal but I dont like the repairs ???

Hello JGR451,

Nice to hear from you, my dealer is not to blame they have been very good, the dealer is Pacific BMW.

An update is as folows, after this last repair Kerry Smith went to bat on my behalf to BMW Canada. Next week I get a replacement 2004 model straight swap ... I am extreemly happy and I have nothing bad to say about Kerry Smith, Ian the service manager and Pacific BMW as a company they are 5 stars.

The person a BMW Canada is Norm Wells and he has also come through for me, I can only take my hat off and say thank you, I hope that I don't have any other problems with the new one.

However all is well that ends well.

I will keep you posted ????

I've heard about these K-GT problems. Are they common and are they gone for 2005? What is the actual fuel tank capacity on this bike? What is the average mileage and range you guys get when not flogging it? I know the K-GT's days are numbered but it is still very tempting. Heck, I bought my R1100R just before it was replaced.

Hi Geoff,no,I was thinking of the MOA rally in Lima Ohio.I am planning to go.
I am a member of BECEEBEEMERS,but have met only two so far.My contact is mostly online eh!!They seem a nice bunch, mostly in the Lower Mainland. They used to meet regularly and have regular group rides. Also, they have an annual rally at Nakusp;I have tried twice to get there and failed;but I will keep trying.

That is a lot of miles!!

Hi well the Ohio trip is out for me this year too much stuff going on here in the west.

I have a Norton rally that I am going on in July in Southern Oregon

Well I have given consideration to joining the BC BEEMERS but I am a member of a club now and I just find some are very clickish so to speak. I love to ride and I love to ride day trips .. I am not a coffee shop rider like some we know ???????? not mentioning the kind or make of bikes that one sees down on Robson Street on a Saturday or Sunday.

We have already done La Conner twice this year and as soon as it gets a little nicer in the East we are planning a trip up to Ainsworth area ??? also a ride for an extended long week end into Jasper, would like to do all the hot springs ???????

I have an '03 GT with 19,250 miles on the odometer. I've kept meticulous fuel records and have averaged 40.2 mpg for the life of the bike with an alltime high of 51.2 mpg. I get my best mileage in the Rockies, above 10,000 feet. That tank involved a considerable amount of low-speed riding at altitude. My fuel warning light comes on around 125-130 miles and I usually refuel around the 150-mile mark. The farthest I've ridden on a tank is 199 miles and I was getting kinda nervous.

Here is the complete list of warranty/recall work done on the bike to date:

4/29/04 - Oil leak at front timing cover - Warranty Claim #4865
Recall: fuel line 0000162900 - Warranty Claim #4865
Recall: immersion tube 0000163100 - Warranty Claim #4865
Recall: fuel pump flange 0000163100 - Warranty Claim #4865

6/15/04 - Replaced license plate bulb holder under warranty.

6/24/04 - Left handgrip was split at seam. Replaced under warranty.

11/6/04 - Pinch bolt would not come out of left fork during tire change. Rear drive was leaking. Replaced pinion seal and press ring, all under warranty.

Hello Indy,

Have you had any hesitation problems which is comon on the 03 models it was fixed on the 04's, there is a computer glitch which causes the bike to hesitate after a throttle roll off and when you roll it on again. It hesitates and then sudenly powers up ... it can be a little scary on a twisty road when you ride a little agressivley.

So you also had a drive seal leaking was that from the gearbox or the engine ??

I haven't experienced any hesitation problems.
The drive seal was from the gearbox, I believe.

Yes tah was the last problem I had I think that was when the dealer went to bat for me ???

Well all in all I love the bike, and most important my wife does to ..

It is a good touring bike and yet it is not a "gold wing" type

Lots of power and and a nice sporty feel .. I don't regret buying the bike and like anything there are good and bad ????
