Anyone know of a way to convert an R60/2 from Bings to Mikunis? Craig the Vechmeister nearly had a stroke when I brought it up. He says keep it original. Sure and that is why it now sports a 12v alternator. I' m lucky to get 40 mpg and that is not riding hard! I've heard of post '70 airheads converted from CV to Jap and it seems to be a vast improvement. Help!

"Vast improvement" is the phrase used by those that have them for sale.

If yours is running rich, the carbs aren't tuned properly and/or need some new parts.

If it's running correctly, your mileage is function of how hard you ride.

There's no magic.

You should get 45+ mpg from your /2.The Bings are quite easy to work on.Anytime you have mileage issues with your bike, the first thing to check are the floats. They are notorious for cracking,so much so I always carry a spare. Also check thst your ignition advance unit is moving properly.Mine stuck in the retarded position, causing poor mileage, not to mention overheating.

Many thanks to chris and whicks for their replies. I had a single Bing on a 350cc Horex single back in the fifties which was wonderful. My R60/2 is what the Brits call a "bitsa". Bitsa pieces from all over-66 engine, 68 frame, etc. Vech, down at Sturgis, MS, genius that he is, dicovered the carbs were mismatched with an old style top and a new style top. Changed that. Vech can start it with his hand but it is a hit-miss prop for me. I've gone into the carbs again, no float leaks but I'm not real sure about the level. I have gotten as much as 45 mpg which, in my ignorance, thought was pretty poor. My Kaw W650 (Triumph wannabe) gets 60-70 mpg when the road tests all said 40. I'm an easy rider. Hence, I though the mileage should be better than 40-45. Actually the W650 is a lot better handling but Axis Sally the beemer gets more looks and comments. But 40 mpg whacks me out! If I ever come across a Mikuni conversion that will fit I''ll have to try them. Thanks again for your feedback. :)
