The wife and I are pondering satellite TV. Anyone have an opinion on
Dish Network vs DirecTV??

I don't have a personal opinion on this but saw a similar thread at another forum, and the majority favored Dish Network. I was browsing the thread as I will be leaving C-Band here in the sticks on of these days/years.

I have DirtecTV from before Rupert owned, and have been satisfied. In the grand scheme of things, the thing to look at is the pricing you have to pay.

D'Lilah and I have Dish Network. We love it! Historically had the large movable set-up which was great but Dish Network is great. I am not sure about how it compares to Direct-TV but I think it boils down to what local stations are carried by each service that will sway your decision.
Make sure and get the PVR or equivilent if offered, I see now that Dish is including it in the basic install. The PVR is simply a hard disc recorder but it allows you the ability to rewind the channel being watched like Tevo (spelling?) The PVR is smart enough to actually program your VCR in the event that you wish to record to tape instead of to disc. Our PVR holds about 60 movies.
Also, we have Sirius Radios in our trucks and used to take the recievers into the house to enjoy Satelite radio when inside but with Dish it was included in one of the packages that we upgraded to. So now we have Satelite radio through out the house which is selectable through a UHF remote. AND if we wish to record the song we can rewimd it and save it to the PVR for future enjoyment.

I used to have C-band (open key) and loved it, and never paid a monthly fee, and still found too much bs to bother watching, but this city restricts dish sizes. Went to cable at the new house, but quality sucked for the price (that old 10 foot dia dish with a stereo audio processor was killer sweet, we got spoiled), so we price shopped to DirecTV under a one-year pricing plan, then we jumped ship at the end of the one-year, changing back to cable under their incentive plan meant to entice dish folks (they are knocking something like $36 a month off my $72 monthly bill for 16 months). That expires in a few months, so I'll shop again. I follow the money; whoever will make me an offer. Remember, they all reserve the right to mess with the programming line up and pricing any time they want.

I don't think it matters who you're with as long as you don't pay too much. Programming sucks regardless of who transmits the rubbish on TV. I am over the television thing, too much blah, too many 'reallity' shows and too many commercial interuptions on the few channels, Disc,TLC,History, worth watching.
Sorry for the venting :D

I've had Dish for the last year, can't compare it to Direct. It stayed on through the 3 hurricanes, and I'm 30 miles north of Orlando. It's been better than the rural cable I had previously for both quality of picture and service.
Now stop worrying about the tube and go for a ride!
