Hi,

Has anyone found a solution to avoid helmet hair, or at leat minimize it?

If I just knew how, I'll ride my bike to work more frequently. :dunno

Any ideas?

Regards,
Mane

Yup, just do what I do and crew cut the hairdo. It's easy to do yourself and cheap on shampoo too :stick
If a military style hairdo puts you, or the SO off, then a silk helmet liner will work also.

Just be happy you have hair. I also have another plan that I use for the ones I have left. I keep a small tube of hair gel in my desk drawer and spike my hair up when I get to work. Does that make me a metrosexual?

However I think this summer is going to be a crew cut instead.

get over it, bb. Messy is in. Just look at Keith Richards. You'll be a trendsetter at work. I find a little mousse before, a bit of water run though my hair with my fingers after gives me that perfect "just f***ed" look the gals go crazy over these days. :D

You got that right, I'd ride my bike to work more frequently too, if it weren't for the hair...and clothes, boots, extra time it takes to gear up, no place for the coffee and doughnuts...ok, maybe it's not just the hair.

ps. good luck getting a straight answer here!

Helmet hair is very flattering, more so on riders than passengers.

I just stopped caring. :dunno

I've been riding to work for nearly 20 years. Short hair helps.

Advice from a Ruralsexual

Leave your helmet on for an entire day, nobody will ever mention your helmet hair again.

As others have mentioned.....short of shaving your head.....not much can be done about it.

If ya ride a bike and it's hot out.....you're gonna get hot as well. If it's cold out...you're gonna get cold as well. If it's wet out......well, you know by now, what's gonna happen. :D

I wear a bandana under my helmet to keep my hair out of my face, keep my sweat off the inside of my helmet (keeps it from getting nasty); I guess it also prevents extreme helmet head. Other solutions might be keeping a brush/comb or your Red Sox hat handy.

a real metrosexual would keep molding paste in his desk drawer, gel is so 80s!!!

hahha, i think i'm gonna dig out the hair trimmer, setting 3, perfect for that "not too shaved look" i haven't had a haircut since december 2nd of last year.........

Shaving the head will solve having helmet hair.

A can of shaving creme and a 10-pak of disposable blades should last about three months. Just make sure you don't shave off your eyebrows or cut off your ears.

An added benefit when visiting a "Gentlemen's Club" is that the ladies love touching the dome...

After I started shaving my head back in 1992 I immediately noticed my chick appeal increase. When ever out at a bar I would always experience at least one lady asking to rub my head. As they rubbed my head I would always say, "Make a wish!" :thumb

I gotta really laugh at that onw, we ran into him in an elevator in an apartment building on the upper west side of manhattan a couple of years back. We didn't recognize him at first because he looks like a vertical corpse, amazing. It was 2am and more than a little freaky. He was nice and polite and pretty cool in the 2 minutes we were together. But you gota see him live if you think he looks weird in concert ot tv.

For helmet hair, when I use the bike for business I go to the mens room wet my hair and paper towel dry it. Works good in the office. In the "field" i carry a sprayer filled with water and a cloth towel. Here in So Cal it's so arid most of the year it dries almost instantly.

I've tried short haircuts too and thats probably the best way.

I'm so confused (and hairless, at least on the top of my head!), could someone enlighten me as to what a metrosexual is? I keep hearing the term but have never heard a definition. I hope it doesn't have anything to do with a GEO.....

It's a male that takes some level of care in their grooming, dress and overall appearance.

You can recognize them pretty easily. They've usually gotten rid of the hair growing out of their ears and nose. :evil At a BMW rally, they're the guys that aren't wearing a Tshirt and jeans.

It's, of course, a spoof on the word heterosexual, but uses a compound of "metro" and "sexual" to imply that a man's sexuality and appearance are influenced by more contemporary, urban (metro) styles.

It was probably first used as an offensive term to suggest a man is "lesser than heterosexual" if he cares about his appearance, but I think that it has evolved into more of a compliment now and means, "you look and dress well," or "wow, you're hot!"

[ASIDE: I have no problems with the term "metrosexual" but I am ammused that it directly links sexuality with appearance, as though you can look at someone and see that they are gay, straight, lesbian... This world has a LONG way to go before we are ready to accept that people have a sexuality not that they are a sexuality. For some there is comfort in thinking that they can readily identify someone's sexuality by seeing that a woman has short hair and is wearing leather, therefore she must be gay. These stereotypes helps establish a "me vs. them," "I think I know who you are and you are 'different', and therefore I know who I am in relation to you" perspective.]

We now return you to your regularly schedule programming.

"ruralsexual"

1. Someone who is comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt and other simple clothing. Someone who does not put appearance before truly important parts of life.
2. Someone who embraces the earth and the agricultural side of being, and disdains urban life.

This describes me a little.

Sliks and similar products seem to work pretty well, but I use hair gel in the morning after showering and then brush it out when I get to work. I am happy with the results

Not "some" level, it's a male who goes to an extreme level of care; give me a break, I can't stand seeing a man with more personal care products than some women own.

I figure the office folks are just dang lucky I'm not naked, much less expecting me to look like I just stepped out of some magazine ad.

The fun thing about riding to work and looking like you did, is that when you show up at some formal function folks will say, "Wow, you clean up pretty well!"

We don't use cabooses on the railroad anymore. That little flashing red light which replaced them is called a fixed rear end device, otherwise known as a FRED. Hey, wait a minute!! I don't like where this is going at all!! :D

In the old days, it would have been the same as "citified," as opposed to someone with a more rural appearance/values/characteristics.
