I just broke 95,000 miles on my K75S! :twirl
Does a leaky water / oilpump shaft seal count as broke? If so I have something broke.

I've got a huge list of repairs/things that need to be replaced:
tires
oil
gas
Oh and I have to buy a new helmet again this year. K bikes are nothing but money pits.

I just had my clutch splines lubed and new tires put on (which made a huge difference!). Does grips count? Or how about my seat cover? I think those are the only things wrong with my bike right now.....

Broke a Ujoint (it wore out, really). Broke a starter relay one cold winter morning. Broke a set of instruments that just stopped working one day. Broke a fan when it filled up with dead bugs. The fan broke my turn signals, which is how I knew what it was. Broke the seal on the front of the transmission and had to pull the trans, reseal it and put it back in.
But that was about it.

sounds like "the" major problem with bricks is having to change oil every few thousand miles :clap

With about 80,000 miles of brick riding under my butt I'd say the three areas most likely to cause problems are:
1)Driveshaft spline wear (earlier models only apparently)
2)Radiator fans freezing up
3)First generation ABS too sensitive for it's own good
On second thought, make that 4 areas with #4 being operator error- always, always use a torque wrench on any fastener that is remotely important DAMHIK

Scratch grips off my to do list. Got some OEM grips from the local dealer. $18 seems a bit steep, but they seem durable. Hopefully they're comfortable on the road. Parts guy gave me a tip that seemed to work pretty well, I sprayed the bar with a little carb/choke cleaner and they slid on with some considerable effort. Hopefully I won't have to take them off anytime soon.....
Oh, also failed to mention that one of the straps broke on one of my bags, the one that keeps the top from coming down past horizontal when you open them on the bike. I got one of those for $7. I'm really quite impressed that every time I've gone to my local dealer for parts (fork seals, grips, bag strap) that they've had all the parts in stock. I mean, my bike's 15 years old.....I really wouldn't be surprised if they had to order some of this stuff, but I'm quite happy they've had it all in stock.

In 107,000 miles, bought new in 1989:
(1) Main wiring harness short
(2) Warped front disk
(3) Bent front rim
(4) 1 drive shaft due to spline wear
(5) 1 Radiator replaced
(6) Water pump rebuilt once (needs to be done again)
(7) 1 Speedo/Tach replaced
(8) 1 Ignition computer (under the tank, not above the battery
(Next) I think it needs new fuel injectors
The motor's hard parts, tranny,& clutch have never been apart.
Sounds kinda bad when listed all in one place but not really too bad for a daily commuter and occassional tourer that has been riden almost daily year-round since 1989.

Mine (k1200lt) had a cracked catylatic convertor at 2500 miles, the shifter broke off in my drive way at 4000miles, since then no problems and running strong at 12000miles

Interesting. We got our bikes at almost the same time. I've also replaced a wiring harness, done two driveshafts, a couple cooling fans, couple alternator voltage regulators, got a speedo replaced early on under warranty, done a couple water pumps, did a mild engine rebuild at 155,000 miles, etc. Changed more cosmetic details than actual mechanical stuff over the years. The bike has 183,500 miles now.
I'm still on the original warped brake discs, radiator, transmission, turn signal bulbs, fork seals (!), fuel pump, starter, alternator, and passenger footpeg rubbers. :D
I doubt your injectors need to be replaced. Just have them cleaned at a diesel fuel injection shop for $25 apiece, and reassemble with new o-rings. Just unplugging and replugging the connectors will probably help things a bit.

85K miles now. Radiator fan failed, and the darned gas tank keeps on getting empty. Funny, how the 1150R sits in the garage waving goodbye to the K so often. Sometimes I can hear them talking at night, but of course it's in German, and I cannot understand most of it.
