Somewhere I read of someone using the lower (rear) front fender half of some model of K bike (LT?), modifying it a bit (sawing some off) to make a "extended" front lower fender for an R1100RT. This appeared to be a more sanitary and effective fender than the "FendaExtenda" that I have on now. Still get way too much road crud on the lower cowling and on the engine. If anyone can direct me to the type of fender and perhaps a link to the modifications required, it would be greatly appreciated.

I did this to my oilhead, a '99 R11. Clearance may be an issue, mine has other stuff changed. It's another front half reversed & mounts made to graft it on. Good Hunting... <<<)))

Yes, you want the lower part off the K1200LT. I think it would be the pre-2005 model, but the '05 one might work as well. I did this on my R1100RSA the week after I bought it. Was looking for a fender extention and a guy at Gina's showed me the LT part on an R1100RT. Not only is it longer, it is slightly wider as well, and it looks like it belongs. I think it was around $25, near the price of the extention.
As to what needs to be cut to make it fit, that is very clear when you try to install it. First, remove the front wheel. The fender install is simple if you do and nearly impossible if you don't. The lower fender is held on the bike by a bolt at each side. Mine new LT part had to be cut to clear the brake line splitter fitting. Very little needs to be cut and you can hold the LT part up to the proper position to see. The LT part has the same mounting holes as the part you removed. I drilled the new LT part for the plastic loop for the speedo cable before the install. Simple install for the fender, the wheel is the hard part. Go for it, and good luck. :thumb

I put the LT rear section of the front fender on my RT and it worked out very well. There is a very good description of how to do this on the BMWSportTouring.com forum.
When you get to the forum go to the top and click on FAQ.
Then go down the left column and click on fender exten-
sion. You will find a very nice thread on this topic.
Good luck,
Gerald
