Courtesy of a small check placed as a deposit, my name is at the top of the list at my local dealer. :clap
The dealers got a preview at the December 2004 conference in Asheville. There is information on the ADVrider site... mostly speculation at this point.
Here is what I hear:
- KTM Adventure killer
- 110 horsepower
- 450 pounds
- very dirt-worthy
- no whizzy brakes (YES!!!)
- possibly a conventional fork
- premium price ($18K)
Lots of other rumors abound, such as chain drive, but I personally feel that they are more related to the vertical twin that's coming as an F650 replacement. In fact, I may almost be more interested in that bike.
This bike sounds like it's gonna kick ass and take names.
HP2 is going to be a perfomance moniker similar to the M series in BMW cars. Hopefully it will bring real performance, similar as it does to the 4-wheelers.
Exciting times, no?
Ian
ps => 02 Pacific Blue-by-you for sale at very reasonable price.

Am I missing something? Why are we waiting until September? We just got a new R1200GS. Yes?

The "HP" is not the standard R1200GS; it is a variant with less weight, more power and is more offroad oriented.

I thought Woolf was asking what the Horse Power was for the GS. . . HP? Get it? That went way over my head. :doh I always thought the GS Adventure was top heavy so I'm wondering if that goes away and this HP model will replace it. Could appeal to the KLR crowd though three times the price makes for a hard sell.

No worries. Things like that happen to me all the time. That is why I am EMOTO: Eventual Master of the Obvious :D
