A question to any and all Brick wrenches.
I will be installing a Staintune exhaust on my '91 16valve K100RS.
Is there any thing I should look out for or helpful hints I could be made aware of that will help me in this task?
I have cracked a weld for the third time on the stock system and my local welder won't touch it again.

Thanks, Ben

When I put the Staintune on my K1100 it was pretty straight forward. Off with the old, and on with the new. No drama involved.

Ben if the welds are cracking it sounds like you may have some misalignment in the mounting or some severe vibration problems. I have an 85 K100 and the exhaust on it is all rubber mounted to the frame.
1) Have the isolation mounts failed on your bike?
2) When mounting the exhaust does all of the mounting bolts line up easily? I f you have to force fit them something is out of alignment.
3) I believe by 91 they had eliminated the problem of the exhaust rubbing on the left foot peg mount. May want to check clearances their also.
4) Stupid question but will ask any how. Are all of your motor mounts tight?

Don't know if this helps.

Happy wrenching

Its a '91 K100RS problem. I know a guy in Indy who welded or replaced this part something like 12 times on his bike.

well, you probably know by now to replace all the exh gaskets with new ones. i would periodically (every oil change) check & retighten the header bolts on my '94 K11. replaced stock with a Remus, but I never had a problem with either cracking. did have the rubber hanger donut by the passenger peg fail, which added a noticable vibration to the system. i'm sure if left unattended, that would create problems elsewhere.

To all who replied, thanks for the help and thoughts about the exhaust.
The bike is in good shape and all within spec as far as engine mounts are concerned. I understand the long stroke K100 motors are prone to vibration but mine is pretty smooth ie no complaints.
If I remember right one of the changes to the 1100 was an increase of bore in relation to the stroke making the 1100 more of a performance engine than the longer stroke, in relation to the bore, 1000.
Gee, a bit wordy, but the bike is paid for and good enough for me!
Thanks, everyone.
