My wife joined me last weekend on a 750 mile jaunt. She enjoyed the couple we rode with and the adventure. At the end of the weekend she asked me to put a back rest on the bike for her. Currently I have a tank bag strapped to the real OEM rack which she does not feel comfortable leaning against.

What has worked well for other 2 up riders?

go to Pirates Lair, they make a cool backrest for the 1150R. am planning on one for the sno queen as julie claire does not like to ride without a backrest either.

I heard the Pirates Lair was the best bet for the R. You can also replace the factory rack with a kit from Givi which gives you a small rack which you cansnap a Givi topcase to. I found this to be a good option, as you could put a backrest pad on the Givi 46 liter case. On weekend trips 2-up, you can put on the top case and have both a backrest and room for a picnic lunch, or a six-pack, and when you get home the box pops off and you have the naked bike again.

$330.00 for a backrest? :brow

I bought a like-new, used CORBIN, front / rear seat for my RT.....for $250.00.

I then paid $100.00 for a used (still new) CORBIN backrest from a private seller that didn't want it afterall. :thumb

Total price: $350.00 :clap

The deals are out there. All you have to do is wait and watch. :thumb

The deals are out there. All you have to do is wait and watch. The expensive Stealth backrest is only worth it if she will use it. I bought one when they were first being designed, and it sits in the garage most of the time because I am a 99.9% solo rider. Do I regret buying it? No, because my occasional passengers love it. I will keep it as long as I own my bike.

It may not be possible to buy a new one much longer, now that the Roadster is out of production. Just watch eBay, the www.ibmwr.org oilhead Marketplace, and the www.r1150r.net Buy/Sell list, and I bet you'll find one. Make sure you get all the parts (backrest, Stealth bracket, and knob).

P.S. There's one on eBay - 19 hours left - Item No. 4585294083.
