I'm almost embarrassed to post such a puny little trip (only 400 miles) in this forum after reading all the epic journeys people have posted, but hey, when it's October in Oregon any chance to get out and enjoy the sun is a worthy occasion.

What made this past weekend special was that it was my first camping trip on my R75/5. I've been riding this bike locally since I acquired it in July and falling more in love with it ever since. When the weather man said it would be sunny and warm this late in the season I couldn't resist a little trip. This territory may be familiar to some of you who attended the Redmond Rally.

I loaned my trusty VFR to my good friend Dan (his Ducati isn't really a camping bike) and we arranged to meet my close friend and riding buddy Scott ("Pelon" on this forum) at East Paulina Lake just North of LaPine on Saturday evening. We had a day of fine riding though the Cascades and central Oregon and it turns out the road from Hwy 97 up to Paulina lake is absolutely sublime! 20 miles of 35 mph corners and big sweepers, great visibility, new pavement, and some outstanding scenery and views, I highly recommend this as a camping destination.

Here's the /5 predawn wearing soft saddlebags and a duffel fully loaded with junk

Met up with Dan in Corvallis to see how he was doing with the VFR... loaded and ready also!

She's no GS but she gets the job done with style to spare!

I tried for some great photos of the cascades and some scenery but unfortunately they didn't come out on my little pocket camera :(

Fortunately this campfire shot did turn out, we were enjoying the last daylight, (and some cheap beer), after a perfect day of riding.
Scott with his R1100R, myself and the /5, and Dan with my VFR750.

:thumb It's not the distance. You guys got out and had a great time. Sometimes I think members don't want to put up a report of a shorter trip. This was great-thanks, Gary

Your photo shows that you and your friends had good time together. A long distance run is not a necessary requirement for a memorable journey. Glad to hear that you had a great weekend with your buddies and the bikes.

Thanks for posting. It has everything I look for in a ride report. Having the /5 is icing on the cake. :thumb

A touring VFR? I like.
I mean, I like the 5 too ... I just thought that ...

I can recall when the 75 was viewed as a Big Bike. Good for you - looks like you had a blast!

How's the gas mileage?:german
