R75/5 Gas Cap Gasket Replacement

Is there any way to replace the gas cap gasket without drilling out the rivet on the cap and replacing it with a screw? Has any one done it who can offer some tips?

I was eye-balling a gas cap a few months ago and I couldn't figure any way to get it apart without taking a grinder to the rivet. Anyone else have any ideas. I'd like to know as well.

I ended up cutting the head off the rivet holding the gasket and its mounting plate in place using a dremel tool. I then reassembled using a washer and small self tapping screw in place of the rivet. The remaining portion of the rivet gave the screw something to bite into.
