Don't want to say anything bad about the heated hand grips since let's face it, they're just great!!! The lower setting works fine, bit on the second level they become too hot to stay comfortable. I'm surprised BMW couldn't make a mid level between the two levels since the upper gets too darn hot if you ask me. I've ridden long rides near freezing so it's not that it's not cold enough at speed.
I think the notion that the higher level is there to get things heated up in a hurry doesn't make sense. Any idea why the second level is so high?
We need not go with the wimpy girlie man spiel either.

I have noticed that the no. 2 setting
is pretty warm.
Almost uncomfortable at times.
I also think that the grips get hotter when you are going through a town ,or hitting higher RPM's shifting through gears.
I switch back and forth between 1 and 2 settings.

it also depends on the gloves you are wearing. with my mesh gloves, that have suede palms, setting #2 is not *too* hot, but it almost is. feels kind of good, like when you wash the dishes in really hot water. when i wear my "winter" gloves, which are thicker, setting #2 doesnt feel too hot at all. im thinking my winter gloves need a less insulated palm, but since winter is almost over here, i dont really care too much.

i'm thinking it's the good wind protection that the RT offers that makes them feel so hot. Grips on my S are not too hot with winter gloves, and without them, i'm too much in the breeze for the back of my hand to be comfortable. you RT guys just don't know how good you've got it for heat!
either that, or try moving north where the weather actually gets COLD. sheesh!

Here in the "Hinterlands of Canada", I really appreciate that #2 setting. :thumb

I suppose if you were handy with electrical issues, it would be e-z to install a series, high-wattage resistor (of the correct ohm value) for #2, to cut the heat down.
