just when you want to bitch and complain about all the deer (i live in kent county and we have the most deer/car accidents in the state of michigan) someone goes and shows me something to be grateful for. glad we do not have moose in kent county.

Hello; We had a similar thing happen here about six years ago; A fellow just finished his 64 Impala SS, after a 3 year rebuild, many bux invested. He was going down hwy 18 here and a herd of roosevelt elk were crossing the hwy on top of hill 60. The big bull went through the windsheild and out the back window, the driver ducked and wasnt hurt but he was pinned in the car for hours and ended up blood soaked and nearly frozen as he went off the road. The fire dept had to cut the roof off to get the elk off him, pretty much destroying the car.

I have seen elk many times on hwy 18, they seem to have a technique where the biggest male stands on the road until all the other elk cross, a crossing guard. If I see a big male standing there, I stop and wait until he ambles away.

On another note; three years ago I was travelling from Edmonton Alberta to the west coast and just entered Jasper park when a huge herd of Wapiti crossed the hwy. I was amazed that they didn't get hit, there must have been 200 of them. It makes you feel pretty vulnerable sitting on a tiny motorcycle while tons and tons of "beef" streak by without touching you.

Down Maine we call the "Swamp Donkeys"The problem with them is that their eyes don't reflect light like a deer. those that have hit them say they never saw it coming. SS

Many years ago in a farming community in northern Manitoba there was a young couple who were well,hefty.The two of them drove a Vega.Put them both in there and the thing pretty much calved.

One day they hit a cow.Killed the Vega.They lived,no serious injuries.Cow died too, tho.
Was it worth it?
Ahhh... the humanity!!

I saw the squashed Vega after the incident.It was almost beyond belief.
