Ok folks,
For fun I thought I would see what the general consensus was on the priority sequence of adding accessories to the new GS or any GS for that matter. Here is my proposed list:
1. Pirates Liar backrest - Must keep the wife happy. Removes in 3 seconds.
2. HB engine guard - I know I will see dirt someday.
3. Jesse panniers - to carry all the wifes stuff when she rides with me.
4. 276C GPS - to help find new roads.
5. Aftermarket shield - to help with wind issues.
6. ???? I don't know whats next. :dunno

Jeff,
I would suggest putting on some miles second. After that, some things may become very obvious like: Bar Backs, a seat upgrade, you mentioned the windshield, ect. One things for sure, add the engine guards first...its not for "if you drop it" but for "when you drop it" I learned the hard way. You can learn from my experience :thumb
After you "pimp your ride" deck out yourself :D

Do you have any saddlebags at all? Either get the OEM or the Jesse or the Zega or Hepco ones. I always have tools and other Stuff I Might Need along with me, like a fleece or electric vest.
The other thing is a tank bag. Wunderlich sells a nice one that isn't as monstrous as the BMW bag. Gotta love having a map right in front of you. I did add a GPS (Garmin GPSMap 60C) that I got for a gift. Used a RAM handlebar mount for it. Works well, but you still need a map.
First thing I did was add a pair of LOUD Hella horns to replace the feeble stock unit. I commute on a busy highway and pinheads are always pulling into my lane.
I have also added Hella F50 driving lights with a mount of my own design and construction. Their oval shape makes them look like they came with the bike.
I want crash bars, but am waiting for the stainless Touratech ones to come out. If I didn't want to wait, I'd go with Hepco & Becker.
A front fender extender is a good thing to keep crap off the front of your engine. There are not many solutions on the market yet for all of the crap that the rear wheel throws in the rain, but I hope something comes along soon.
I will look at aftermarket windscreens more closely once there is a decent variety to choose from available in the USA. I'd like more weather protection, but it is not so bad that I MUST have it.

I did add a RoadGear tank bag (three point in black) it works pretty good. Got it at the IMS for 90.00.

I went ahead and ordered the HB engine guard in black. I figured I could paint it if I din't like it in black. I have my aim set on Jesse luggage. I hope to use them on long road trips and camping only. They are not the most fashionable bags, but I am looking for fuctionality. I'm holding off on the gps hoping to get a good deal on a used one. The list keeps growing and I just want to keep it simple. Simple is just no fun with all these neat gadgets out there. :) Oh yea, check out the Pirates Liar backrest I bought for my wife. She loves it. I think she is saying hurry up and take the picture (it is to show the backrest in action).
