Just rescued a 1971 R60/5 from a barn and have been slowly bringing it back to life. I need to pull the cylinders to replace push rod tube seals and read in Clymers manual that the early /5's require a special tool to reinstall the rockers onto the head. They don't show the tool or how it's used. Anyone know where this tool is available and whether it is really necessary? Thanks in advance for the help.

Basically, it is intended to hold the rocker blocks and shafts all square with the head. Only it doesn't work worth a hoot. Don't worry about it. Eyeball it all square, get the blocks tight up against the rockers (but not too tight), make sure the pushrods don't touch the tubes through two complete crank revolutions, and it'll work just fine.

I know a lot of wrenches get the rockers squared up fine without it, but a few years ago a fellow on the /5 United list made up a batch of squaring jigs for doing this. I have one and would be willing to loan it to you if you haven't put it back together yet. Email me if you still need it,
