I own a 77 RS that has been converted to dual plug ignition. It is still running points and condensor. There is a Dyna ignition booster wired to Dyna coils. The bike dies occasionally. It just dies. No sputtering or cutting out. The ignition just goes dead. If I open the points and check for power with a test light it will start back up and run for a while.

Any suggestions?

Chris

Had a similar problem with my Dyna equipped S. Check the ground at the condensor. For that matter check all the grounds & electrical connections, 28 years can allow alot of corrosion to build. DAMHIK

Hello; I had that problem once, it turned out to be the starter relay under the tank on the left side. It stopped across the road from a fellow who was fixing his speed boat. He walked over to have a look just as I was removing the tank, with a cold beer for me. He got his kids to load the bike on his pickup then offered to drive me home. By the time I returned his pickup he had thought about it and figured it has to be the starter relay, I ordered a new one, stuck it in, and haven't had any problems since. I took the old relay apart to see what caused the problem, one set of points had welded itself together. This was on a 77 R100/7.
