View Full Version : Copying a RR from another forum?

I have been working on my RR and slowly posting it else where. I want to copy the content and pictures to this forum. I had no issues doing this from one forum to anther simply by editing the post, copying it and pasting it. everything would transfer. Here the written portion and links transfer but no pictures even though this forum uses the same format as anther.

Any input to make this easier on me? I would hate to have to post all the pics again!

What's an RR? Depending on the access requirements to the other forum (must be a member?), you could post a link to the other forum in an appropriate MOA forum. For testing purposes, you could try this in the testing forum at the top of our forum page.

But if you uploaded images on the other forum, you would have to repeat that process here. If those images are already out on the web in a shared photo account (flikr, smugmug, snapfish, etc.), then copying the links should work.

RR = Ride report?

I've posted my reports in a couple of forums, and it sounds like I've done what you're trying to do, but with better success it seems. Once I write my report and paste the photo links from Photobucket into my report, I copy the entire thing and past it into another forum, such as this. Text and images come out exactly as they did in the first forum.

One thing you might watch out for, is the image format. Photobucket for instance can generate an html tag/link for web pages, e-mail, online forums, etc, and they're all different links in different formats. If I copy the image links in the "forum or message boards", it works fine from forum to forum. It won't work if I'm copying from a web page, e-mail, messenger or facebook type of format.

Putting pictures into your thread/post has two paths.

1 is as an attachment with jpg/jpeg format and about 153K with a 800 x600 max pixel size and you can only attach 1 per post.

2 is you can use photobucket or other hosting sites - the VB coding needs to be path of image

Also if you are uploading pictures from a hosting site I think the max amount you can put in a single post is about 20

See if that helps you

OK...so what I have done with no issues is write the RR on the ADV forum - sorry but I have to explain using other forums names....I simple go into edit for each post, highlight the post, copy and then I pasted into the F800 forum. No issues etc....here the set up is exactly the same as the other forum so I assumed I could easily copy info from other forums to here.

Not so it appears. Yes I have photobucket and have uploaded many pics to there to attach to posts but that took a lot of time. I really just want to copy and paste but something is not allowing me to do it here:banghead

I was just thinking is there a minimum amount of posts you have to do before you can attach pictures in this forum?

There's no such restriction on this forum. First time posters have added photos off them and/or bike iin the Welcome forum.

Semper_Fi provided good guide lines on how to attach photos..

One thing to remember is how the forum software truncates long URLs. If the URL is short enough, the entire URL will be visible on the screen. If the URL is particularly long, the forum software shortens it to something this:

"http://www.thismightbea............really long URL.html"

If you see that on the screen, you can't just copy and paste that and expect it to work. You can click on it and go to that specific webpage. If you have long URLs, you'll need to update them with the correct path.

No issue naming other forums. :wave

I am not following or understanding your problem completely - you cannot post the text or you cannot post the images or both?

I have transfered post with pictures from this forum to others - so i am assuming it will work the other way.

The following was transferred from soph9's post on ADVRider:

What's up fellow inmates! As my avatar indicates, I am a very ambitious noob. I started riding back in April, learned on my KLR 650, took the Basic Riding Course from Jack and Doug at Alaska Leather. I hope you like the ride report – I'm as interested in the journey as in the riding, and I'm open to constructive criticism. Sorry it's so long, for future rides I'll try to post as I go and break it up a bit.

I rode from Anchorage to Prudhoe Bay and back, leaving late on Friday and getting back Wednesday evening, about 1838 miles in about 5 days of riding.
A big thanks to everyone here on advrider. I combed the forums for advice for every piece of gear I own. Much wisdom you have masters...though as you'll see this padawan could have used a bit more himself at times...

On Friday, I spent most of the day getting ready to go. When I was finally ready to go, I took a nap. I was almost reluctant to go, keyed up, apprehensive. Finally I mounted up and rode out from my apartment in Anchorage, about 5 pm.

Freaking creepy igloo. Used to be a hotel but collapsed or something, I heard.

I had dinner at Denali Park Lodge, the Alpenglow Restaurant.

Someone played Jason Mraz softly, the food was good, the valley stretched out below. I guess all our national parks have an international exchange program, so the servers are charmingly foreign. The young lady from Moldova, my waitress, gave me a list of places to visit in Moldova. “My last boyfriend was in the Army,” she told me wistfully. I said “see you in Moldova!” (yeah, don't know who I thought I was), and ran my bachelor legs back to my bike and freedom. I rode a few miles more, then pulled off a dry creek bed and set up camp. My Clark hammock is fully waterproof with the tarp, but with the fir trees the tarp wasn't needed. The mosquitoes were pretty thick, but I was safe in the hammock.

Is that what you're trying to do??

Basically, you can cut-n-paste all of the text...sorry the smileys aren't going to come through that way. As for the pictures, they will not transfer directly by cut-n-paste. In order to get your pictures to show where they should, right click on the picture in ADVRider, copy the link for the picture to the clipboard, then go back to the MOA forum where the picture should be and do as Luis said above. Type "" (omit the quotes), paste in the URL you copied for the picture, then close out with "" (again, omit the quotes). No spaces between the first "[" and the last "]". That's all I did to transfer what you did on ADVRider to above.

Does that help?

I have a couple copy-cat threads here and on advrider.

I usually initially post them here, because the images appear in html and I can edit and mess with them sufficiently. Then, going over to advrider, after the initial post, the images appear and their html is gone. So it doesn't work the other direction (adv to here). At least, I haven't found a way; other than linking all the pictures again.

to go from adv to here you just need to trun off the html formatting, click on the icon in the upper right of the posting interface the screen area will turn color and the image tags will appear where the images were displayed. Now the post will just be composed of text, then cut the text and save it to an editor then paste it into any other forum. I usually create my posts that include pics in OpenOffice or a text editor first then test it in a forum, once that's done I can then use the same copy in any forum I visit. Note that tags for smiles vari from forum to forum so some may not translate but that's a minor issue.
