Shep,
Tap the side of your ABS pump with a screwdriver handle or a broom handle. The ABS power relay in the pump has welded it's contacts. I would not ride it far with the pump running like that.
You CAN replace just the relay. My riding buddy had that happen a couple of years ago. Ran his battery flat because he didn't hear it when he parked it. His failed because only one of the two contact straps in the relay was making contact. All the current passing through one contact eventually welded the contacts together.
You want P/N 61 36 2 306 526
Keep us posted on your progress. :cry

Shep,
Here's a similar problem reported on the BMW Sport Touring board:

Mick & friends.............
Are you guys saying there is a relay in the pump housing per se, in addition to the relay farm under the tamk??
I agree suspected what all these posts said-I'm gonna let dealer resolve-they have been good about the warranty items-but I also need to get on board if this is going to recurr in future.......Tx

Shep,
Warranty .... on a '97? WOW!
I'll try to post a picture of the relay. It is in the pump asm.
P/N 61 36 2 306 526 About $70 Retail. Reference #5 in the pic
I've only seen ONE fail so it's not a big worry.

Mick...............this is an excellent pic. thanks.......yes the bike had a 30 day warranty on the bike from the dealer!!!!!
Thanks for all the help.................................Shep
dear shep,
bring it to me @ the dealer to where you bought it. I'll be glad to take a look at what it's doing, because I haven't seen anything like that happen to an "absII system". my name is karl and I'm responding with a friends computer.
p.s. sometimes a sledgehammer will work in some cases!

Karl,
Congratulations!! THAT is customer service! :clap
I have a really good digital picture of the one I fixed for my riding buddy.
Only one of the internal contacts was making a connection and it eventually welded itself. If you look closely at the left operating contact, you will see that it has a very slight burn mark in the center of the contact. The right contact is the one that was welded shut.

Karl is that you????
Thanx.............am working night shift tonight (Mon) will bring it in on trailer tomorrow. Appreciate your interest, you are truly a credit to the dealer!!
Shep,
Yes, it was Karl the raging kraut. We were lurking in here the other night and saw your post. Karl remembered you had purchased the bike from them after seeing it at the rally in Venice.
You and I met a few years ago at the Jacaranda Hotel in Sebring. By the way is the Group 44 hangar still open? Have not been at the airport in a while.

Great to hear from you.....yes Group 44 is still open to all,, minor hangar door damage from Jeanne......also the Bon Appetito restaurant has flourished well, with awesome Spanish meals.............will bring the LT to Karl late morning Tues.
Hope to see you soon..................are you guys goin' to the "Winter Rally" in Camp Blanding this weekend.....................excellent rally.......
Shep
Yes, we will be there, myself, my wife, Karl and some other friends. We will be camping at the end of the loop under the trees if i can get there early enough to snag the place. Look for a white plain K75, a red white pd with a moto guzzi parked next to it. That will be us.
See you then.
