View Full Version : Easy way to swap city lids with system lids?

I've got a nice set of city lids on my cases. I like them because they keep the bike relatively narrow. But on occasion (like long trips) I want to put on the deeper system lids that I bought used on eBay. What I'm looking for is a way to make them interchangeable fairly easily without having to rivet them each time. I haven't yet removed the city lids but I assume that can be done by carefully drilling through the rivets. Can I attach the system lids with very small bolts and nylon locknuts to hold them in place instead of rivets? Seems that would make the interchange much simplier.
Thanks,
Scott

someone makes a hinge that will allow you to swap lids on the fly without any tools.
I can't find the link right now but I think I found a thread on the R1100R site for them.
I'll see if I can find it for you.

Thanks, they look perfect! I'm going to go ahead and order a set for an upcoming ride.

did mine with some bolts/washers & nylocks. more than 5 mins (about 10-15), but less than $5. total cost.
thickness of covers is different, so you need wither 2 sets of bolts, or ones long enough to go thru the System lids as well as the City lids.

I did get a set of used clamps manufactured by Evolution Cycles. They were easy to install once I drilled the existing rivets out. They are going to work fine for me. After looking it all over now I can see how simple bolts and nylok nuts would work too. I think the beauty of the EC solution is that once it's installed you only have to remove two screws from each bag and do the swap.
