Hi everyone,
A couple of weeks ago I pulled the trigger on a new R1200RT. I'm now a little over 1500 miles in and loving it.
First, the RT.....

This is my old bike. A 2007 Yamaha FZ6. I bought it a couple of years ago as a leftover model and put about 20K on it - mostly touring, doing a few IBA rides, and a rally. It's a great multi-purpose bike, but I wanted something a little more suited to long days and colder weather. With little space in the garage and in need of $$ for the new bike, I traded it in when I got the RT.

This is my other "keeper." I bought it on Craigslist last year. It's a blast when it runs, but that's rare (it fouls plugs about every 10 miles). :scratch I'm planning a complete engine/electrical rebuild this winter. When done, I think it'll be a nice compliment to the RT.

Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Would that be the middle of the mitten? Nice group of bikes those old Honda's were a lot of fun. Sounds like despite the weather in MI your still getting some good riding in, you'll appreciate the heated grips soon. Again, welcome and enjoy, Gary

Actually a bit south of the middle. I'm in Albion - off I-94 between Jackson and Battle Creek, and almost directly south of Lansing.

Welcome from another newbie. You bought at BMW Southeast didn't you? I bought my new RT on Saturday and if not your yours a very similar Yamaha was on the floor. Regardless look up the Michiana BMW Club as well. You are close enough to meet up with them for some events as well. Ride is coming up in September to Traverse City.

Yup. I bought mine at Southeast, so that must have been it. I live slightly closer to the Grand Rapids dealership, but they didn't have a standard-height RT in anything other than polar ice so I went to Canton.
I took the RT to Grand Rapids for the 600-mile service - in part because I'm afraid I might buy back my FZ6 if I see it again! I just checked their website, and it's listed with the correct description.....except that they say it has 30,000 miles on it when it actually has less than 20,000.

D-Mac....Your CL350 brought a flood of memories to me. My first scooter was a Honda C110, better known as a Sport 50. In the summer of 1970 I drove a tractor 14 hours a day and when school started went to the nearest Honda dealer and plopped down $625.00 for my brand new '71 CL350. Had it for two years and 20K miles and traded it even for a '66 GTO Tri Power.
I do not currently own a BMW, but have had them in the past. I am working on a trade to get a 79 R100. After restoration, I will have a great road burner to enjoy in my retirement. I would love to have a new one, but the money just ain't there and besides, the airheads were what I grew up around and with so I'll stick with 'em. They are great in the winter at keeping your feet warm.

Anyone planning to go to the Owosso vintage event this weekend? I'll be there (not with the old Honda though - it won't run that long). There's more info posted in the Airheads section.

This should be a fun, laid back event with a lot of members of the BMW Touring Club of Detroit present. Don't let the name throw you off-although most members are from Detroit, many of us are from other cities in Michigan. I encourage you to come and enjoy the bikes and the riders!

Welcome, D-Mac! I'm in Holt, just on the south side of Lansing. Enjoy your RT and maybe we'll cross paths. I'll keep an eye out for you.
Cheers.
