I ordered some Moto-Techniques cam cap covers for my '03 RT.

They should be here today. The OEM cam cap covers on my RT have leaked (weeped) a little since day one. Not a whole lot, but enough that it makes me want to wipe um down when I think of it.

About a year ago, I bought a Moto-Techniques oil filler cap for my RT. The OEM oil filler cap leaked enough, that oil would end up on your pants. BMW dealer tried 3 times to fix, but no use. The Moto-Techniques oil filler cap sealed tight...and no more oil leaks.

So....I'm hoping that their cam cap covers will be just as effective.

The price of the Moto-Techniques caps were about $28.00 for the pair, and I ordered them from Sierra BMW in Sparks, NV.

Once I install them, I'll post an update. :D

The trick to fixing the leaks on the oil filer and cam covers is to smooth down the casting flash in the o ring groove. Thats the little ridge created by the parting joint of the mold. I did that on my 94 R1100RS seven years ago just after I bought it, replaced the o-rings, and no more leaks since.

Most excellent tip! :clap

I wish I'd known this before ordering the cam cap covers. :cry

Yeah Ed; excellent tip! I love a cheap fix. Next time I do the valves I'm gonna take care of it.
Thanks, Steve

My Moto-Techniques cam cap covers arrived yesterday.

I got them installed and it was a no-hassle one at that.

Now....if the snow and ice would just melt..........

Well.....I got in a 250 mile ride and my Moto-Techniques cam cap covers (try saying that real fast five times in a row) sealed nice and tight. Not a hint of any oil weeping. :clap

You'd think that BMW would have considered that as a desirable goal in the first place. :dunno

Almost 1000 miles on the cam cap covers. Not a hint of any oil seepage. :thumb

One of the best low $$ mods so far............ :clap

2000 miles later, and not one hint of an oil leak or weepage (that's a word...right?) :dunno

Anyway.....glad I bought them. :D
