Acc. Outlet for Battery Tender??

Dear Techies...............

Would like to plug my Battery Tender into the side Accessory outlet on my '97 LT. I do not read Battery volts here.....I believe I should be able to.

On my Airhead RS the BMW plug just goes into the Acc. socket......

Assuming that your battery is not a BMW gel battery, yes you can plug in you battery tender into the accessory socket.

It might be a blown fuse.

Do you have power when the ignition is on ?

Thanks folks.............I overlooked a very obvious troubleshooting route....uh....check the fuse!!!! I'm a newby Brickhead.....all these cute, modern fuses all lined up where you can see 'em, and even replace them.

I'm not used this type of engineering marvel!!!!!!!! :D

The side port on my 93 KLT is a switched outlet and can not be used for charging the battery. I must use the one up by the key. That one is not switched and is hot all the time. You can easily check to see of yours is switched by turning on the key and seeing voltage, turn it off and no voltage.

Based on the information from the original post, I had to make the assumption that a lead acid battery was being used. I threw that in incase that assumption was wrong.

If you have a BMW gel battery and want to charge that battery through the accessory socket, you must use a BMW battery charger specially made for the BMW gel battery. It is blue.

That's fine. I just took your post as saying there was an issue with using the socket to re-charge a gel battery.
