I need some help and information on my airhead. I have an 80 R100s. I'm trying to get it back to as original as possible and hope to find somebody out there that may be able to furnish and or verify what I know about my bike. I believe it is an R100S "exclusive sport". She has the silver paint, tri-color decals on the fairing, tank, and tail. Also has polished lower fork legs, carb tops, and rear drive. The information I have (which I don't know is true or not) is that she was a factory special of 200 models and about 20 came into the states. I'm hoping there's some other owners that could help me with questions on what mirrors and shocks came as stock. At some point in her life someone knocked her over requiring new paint on the quarterfairing so the tri-color decals were lost. I would like to be able to replace or find somplace to get new ones made. Also, is there some company that could refurbish snowflake wheels? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

It seems you may be correct about your model. Here's a quote direct from a book of mine, "Original BMW Air-cooled Boxer Twins 1950-1996" by Ian Falloon:

"BMW also added two limited editions for the year (1980). One was the limited-edition R100S 'Exclusive Sport' , in metallic silver with triple-tone blue striping on the fairing, fuel tank, and seat tailpiece. This limited edition also included chrom shock-absorber springs and polished fork legs, rocker covers, and final drive housing. Its rear fender and side covers wer silver, with blue 'R100S' decals. The cast wheels were also a matching light silver."

So, if the rear shocks don't have chrome springs, then they're not original. You would probably have to go to an after-market shock, and I'll bet the decals would be hard to find.

Sounds like you've got an interesting bike. Good Luck on getting it to original, and if you happen to find a good source for your parts, be sure to post hear so we all can share. :)

Go to www.boxerworks.com and do a seach in the "general BMW discussion".
This model was discussed in depth a little over a year ago. Pretty rae and cool for sure.

Thanks for information and the lead to boxerworks. I didn't know about that site. It's always nice to find another BMW place. Still hope to find another owner of one of these to compare bikes. Happy New year to all!!
