Hey all,
Forgive me riders for I have sinned. It's been 5 months since my last BMW purchase, and I'm only now joining BMWMOA. I don't know 'what' I was thinking.
I'm an original San Diego native (really!) who recently purchased an '01 R1100RT-P. Love this bike and the wonderful times I've had so far. Getting ready to ride Hwy 1 from San Diego to San Francisco at the end of this month, can't wait!
I hope no one minds if I share a couple of pics of my bike. Did I mention I love this thing?:evil

WOW...... you have extraordinarily great taste in bikes. And all this time, I thought it was just me. Beautiful piece of machinery and beauty you've got there!

Congratulations on your recent purchase. I ride a 2000 R1100 RT and was just down in San Diego a few weeks ago (first time with a bike) visiting my son and his family.
You've got some nice riding around there so explore!!
Enjoy your ride up toward "my neck of the woods" in a few weeks. I live just outside of Santa Cruz, about 75 miles south of SF. I love the Hwy 1 ride in either direction between Morro Bay and Monterey. It can be technically challenging and in the afternoon when the wind whips, it can be really HAIRY!
I was once hit with a gust of wind so strong from the side that it caught under my helmet and LIFTED ME OUT OF MY SEAT! Luckily, there wasn't any traffic approaching me because I ended up in the oncoming lane.
Take care and enjoy your riding.

Thanks Jay,,
I appreciate the welcome, and the warnings about Hwy 1. :thumb That's some serious wind! I'll be traveling North, so at least I'll have one lane between me and the sheer cliffs next to the Pacific. I've driven Hwy 1 in a car too many times to count, but I'm "really" looking forward to doing it on two wheels, and on a BMW. It'll be just like my first time, I can't wait!

Thanks Former G-Guy, excellent suggestion! I'm taking a couple of days to drive North, but I'm still going to need a break now and then to get off the saddle and stretch.

I stole your bike, and then replaced all the parts with 2002 model year parts.

Wow. A little soap and water, and my bike looks at least a year newer. Oh... and whiter. :D Thanks for sharing by the way!
