View Full Version : Dirt in oil at oil change

In doing an oil change today on my 2002 R1150RT, I was using a measurement funnel with on/off and clear plastic tubing to make it easier to be accurate and tidy. When I add an extra 100 ml that should have been the last, I could see some dirty small particulate running down the tube that must have been in an area of the funnel I couldn't clean and inspect.
So now I have introduced dirt in the engine with the new oil and run it on the centerstand.
Should I change the oil and filter again right away? Run it awhile and change the filter but not the oil? Will the filter catch the particulate and I shouldn't worry?

How much oil are we talking about? 1 oz. or just a trace. if its what I'm thinking, just a trace that got in the hose somehow, I wouldn't worry about it. the filter will catch it. if it makes you feel better just drain and replace the oil. the filter should be fine...

I had already put in 3.5 liters. Oil was running slowly out of tube towards the end of that but did not notice dirt. It was in the last 100 ml I noticed it.

If it is small like you said, I'd not bother with it. It is in the pan and oil in the pan first goes through the filter. Even w/o a filter I'd not be too concerned. If it were sand, maybe, but general junk in a funnel, I'd not fret about it.

Yes it was very small. I was not even sure what I was seeing or didn't want to believe it when I did.
