On my recently acquired '95 GSPD the door on the gas tank tool/junk compartment has separated from the hinge by virtue of the three fiberglass studs have broken off.
If this is an uncommon problem and related solely to careless use I'll replace the door. At $40US + paint/decals, I can live with it once- and be careful there after.
If it's a common problem and related to inadequate design I can see some through bolts and spacers in my future. Not a big deal other than the requisite nuts appearing on the outside of the door.
I'd appreciate feedback from others on this subject.
Thank you-

No problems Here. 1990 model 40,000 miles. I dont see how any stress could be applied to the door resulting in loose fasteners unless it was torqued to the side or bent back too far. They are supposed to have a strap on the inside to prevent it from opening too far. Ill vote for abuse.

I've got about 60K on mine without any problems and I use that compartment qiute often. Good luck with the fix!
