I went by a local powdercoat place yesterday because I want to get my valve covers powdercoated on my R1150RS. I'd mentioned this before on a previous post, and I believe (bikerfish?) or someone else had some insight to this. My bike is the two tone blue (dark blue, and a frost blue). I'm going with the dark for the valve covers, and I called my dealer for the paint code as the owner of this place suggested. He also is trying to talk me into a flat black, like what is on the transmission housing but I don't think that'll look very good. Did anyone else go a similar route? He claims that a gloss coat would show every little defect including water spots. I'd like to do at least a semi-gloss but I'm worried that he might be right. Pics would be appreciated!

Go to the last page of the oilhead picture thread and you will see my GS with powdercoated valve covers. I bought it that way! I just called a local powdercoat shop here and they told me we can change the color back to a stock silver with no problem. The yellow ones are a semigloss and look perfectly smooth with no imperfections showing through.

Myke.....I'm on the road right now (for work)..I had my RT valve covers done by Mike Porter in Mobile,AL....got many compliments from people who saw my glossy black VC's at the Chicken Rally this past weekend. He's got a website...do not know from memory...he's a master at powder coating..has a awesome shop in Mobile.....will give more info when I get home. His website is something like Porter Motor sports.....or similar.....

Good Morning Myke,
I had my valve and crank cover on my 1996 K1100RS done in gloss black and then some time later layed it over and scratched it all up!, but it looks good. Yes it does show water spots and all but it cleans up easily. Mine is covered with fairing so it can't be seen. And compared to what it looked like before it was a big improvement. I think the nice gloss finish out weighs the dirt showing up. Just give it a wipe and its done. See ya at work :)
