1987 K75S. What are these unused connectors for?

This one is on the right side under the tank:

This one is in the electrics box:

Stephen,
#2 looks like the factory alarm connector.
#1 looks strangely aftermarket.
#3 If it has a Red/Grey wire and a Brown wire in it, it's part of the alarm wiring.
#3 If it is P/N 61 12 1 459 263(which it looks like in the picture) it is part of the heated grip wiring.

#3. isn't from the alarm. that one is in the electrical box. i do have an alarm on my bike. this one is off of the heated grips harness.

#1. is this for the fuel gauge?

#1 'could' be for the fuel gauge but the colors seem wrong.
My Clymer says Br G/W Y W for that 4 position connector.

Could also be for additional instruments.

There are also points on the harness for driving lights and the relay that goes with them. I had them on my K75C, but forget what the connectors look like.

#1 is almost definitely the "additional instruments" connector. The colors are a bit off but the connector should have a paired black/green (looks black in the pic), a yellow, a green/blue (looks blue in the pic), and a brown (looks orange).

I have an analog fuel gauge plugged into this connector.

I think that No. 1 is the connector where you can plug in the optional 4-way flashers, and maybe something else. I thought though that on mine it was on the left side of the tank though. I hope that's vague enough! :)

Nope! I'm already using that one.

Is anyone sure that Burnszilla is not yanking our chain on this one? :stick

It sure looks to me like #1 is the fitting on the wires from the power supply that connects to a floppy drive, cd, hard drive, etc. on my computer. :dunno Maybe that's where Burnszilla got the photo. ie. how can one identify where it is on the bike, if it is really on the desktop!

Do I win the prize? :bolt

Heyyyyyyyyy,
I got two out of three on the first try. :dunno

Stephen,
Are you SURE that two position connector with the label isn't your Heated Grip problem? It should be connected if you actually have heated grips. :p

I'm clueless and I've never been that deep into my K75, but do you KNOW where the connection for the dignostic computer is? I would suspect #2 to possibly be such a connector.

I had my tank ('92 75S) off about 3 weeks ago, but I didn't see anything like those under there. #1 sort of looks like the computer hookup, but it's not under the tank. Maybe check the leads with a voltmeter.

Ok let's clear this up. After some research.

http://www.burnszilla.com/images/bmw/k75wire1.jpg
1. Connector for additional instruments. If you follow the yellow wire from this connector on the Clymer wiring diagram it goes to the fuel level sensor. The Blue/Grey wire goes to the ignition switch. Therefore this must be for a fuel gauge.

http://www.burnszilla.com/images/bmw/k75wire2.jpg
2. Connection for Special Equipment. The yellow and white wires from here run to the low beam switch. Other wires run to the instrument panel. I'm guessing this is for the optional driving/fog lights or perhaps for lights on the police version.

3. Heated Grips connector. I accidentally disconnected this while installing new throttle body tubes. I found the other end and connected them and now my grips are working again.

Thanks everybody.

I'm interested too, I installed heated grips recently and found the same 3 connectors not being used. The one with the label is for the grips and that is what I used. But the other two not really sure, I have 4-way flashers but no alarm, and I do have 2 lights out on the console the coolant and choke, now if I can find the male-end of the connnectors... :thumb

#1 - instruments, fuel level and temperature gauge (although you DO have to add a sensor for the temperature gauge.) See my K75S to see where they can be mounted: http://www.eilenberger.net

#2 "Special Equipment" - used for police equipment on so equipped bikes and may have been used for other accessory equipment. Has switched and unswitched lines on it - useful for accessory hookups.

#3. Heated grips connector. Left side of bike near the left frame rail under the tank.

I have the first 2 connectors available, and I have both temperature and fuel gauge, and 4-way flashers etc...

It has been 17 years since I installed my driving lights and at least 10 years since I installed a set on Voni's k75, but #2 fits my memory of the driving light kit installation.
