This morning while riding to work, I thought I snapped my clutch cable but after pulling over, discovered the clutch lever (Part #6 in diagram) had snapped off near the base.

Replacement part is $184.11 (ouch). How difficult is this to replace? My wrenching skills are slightly above average.

Mahalo!

The hard part is getting to it. Other than that it is one bolt to mount it and moving the adjuster screw and nut from the old one to the new one, and properly adjusting the clutch.

My real questions is why in the world did this lever break. I have never seen one of these break. Which then raises some questions:

Was it binding where it bolts to the transmission?
Is the throwout bearing binding in its bore?
Was it just a metal flaw?

In addition to bolting the new one on I would certainly pursue finding out why in the world the lever broke.

Good questions, Paul. I'm not sure!

Here's a pic of the actual broken lever. You can see where it snapped off.

This is the second one I have seen - the other was on the BMWRT.com forum.
As Paul said - easy to replace, but a little awkward to get to.
