I am in the process of refinishing a well used large gas tank for my /6 and could use a couple of close-up pics of an original tank showing the location of the pinstripes. If anyone has any good pics, please post or mail them to me at pemsley@optiframe.com.
Thanks!

Thought I'd share an update of my refurb of this black (originally red) /6 tank I just bought. I've always thought these bikes looked 'right' with the large tank, and mine came with the small one. I really didn't want to shell out the $ for a 'like new' one so I bought one that had seen some miles and decided to paint it myself.
It was a little rusty, through to the original red color in places, and down to the metal in others. It had a few dents and dings but nothing major. strangely, the internal coating looked almost perfect. I chemically stripped it to really see what I had just spent $100 on ... no turning back now:

After a few applications of stripper, some cleaning and a liitle sanding and wire brushing, I had it back to bare metal:

I wanted a winter project I could do myself, so I decided to rattlecan it. Here it after a couple of coats of primer and some sanding:

Here it is painted with new roundels and the pads back on. I need to clean up the pinstripes in a couple of places but will wait until they have hardened off a little. The stripes were masked and hand pained. To be honest, the photo don't do the final result justice at all, but I haven't got a better one (flash and garage lighting...etc)

Wow, like they said, "miss a day, miss a lot".. I've been too busy to do my usual time on the forum and I missed this. HAD I seen it earlier, I would have posted that there is actually a BMW part number for a pinstripe template that makes the job a "no-brainer".

Would you know the part numbers for the 90/S and early 100/RS pinstripe templates.

David, please do post the part numbers, just in case I feel like doing it again :)
