View Full Version : Has the method for logging in changed?

This forum used to have the best logging in function. You'd click the login link, and the space for your name and ID would pop up and the page would never change through the whole process. But this last week or two its changed. You go to a separate page, and then have to link your way past a couple of pages back to the page you were on. No biggie, but the old way was the best of any forum I've visited.

Why the change? :dunno

There is a new software package in place that gives much better security. I know they are still sorting it out. Hopefully it won't be too much of a pain.

Not a pain at all. I just noticed and it got me curious. Thanks for the info.

Often, if I click respond (and I'm not logged in), after I login, it'll tell me something like "invalid thread specified."

Well it's hosed for me!

I tried to log in and got in an endless loop that tells me my ID has expired. It'll send me a new password and back into the loop I go. I can not change that password (the one emailed to me) or create a new account (obviously 'cuz it tells me the account already exists).

The end result is I'm unable to register on line for anything!

That's a bit beyond my scope, but I think I might know what went awry. Sending you a note.

Thanks Scott! You were correct and I'm a dumb ass...

You mean you actually have to pay DUES to have member rights? One of the hazards of a)a pretty sucky 2009 and b)belonging to too many motorcycle groups

Now why doesn't my RA menbership count here:scratch

I'm back in the fold and good for another year:thumb

I've been trying for over a week to log on - the log on function either failed to respond or it linked to an "invalid thread" message. Meanwhile, every time I linked to the account manager it recognized me and showed me as already logged in (?!?)

I routinely use Firefox as my web browser. As a last resort I booted up Internet Explorer - and BINGO.

There must be some incompatibility between Firefox and the new log on process.

I'm having the same problem using Firefox on my Macintosh. I've had to switch over to using Safari since I'm unable to log in otherwise. Using Firefox, I sign in, and it simply kicks me back to the forum front page without having logged me in. I'm pretty sure that there's an issue with the new login software.

hmm

I use both Firefox and Safari as my primary browsers - on a mac. Hmm... I wonder if Firefox is handling the cookie differently. It shouldn't matter what browser you are using. The scripts/links are fairly simple and don't ask much of the client side.

Just to make sure that it wasn't only my machine, I tried logging into the forum using Firefox from my wife's Mac, and ran into the same issue.

I'm running the OS X version of Firefox 3.5.7 and she's using 3.6.3. The problem actually seems a little more complicated than what I described. The login not only refuses to take, but subsequent attempts can't even get me to the login page. Clicking the "login" link at the top of the page just reloads whatever page I happen to be on. If I clear the browser's cookies, I'm once again able to access the login page by clicking the link, but attempting to login from there simply repeats the previous problem. This behavior might suggest a cookie being set but subsequently not resulting in the intended consequences.

-------

Edit: By the way, I just checked the problem on a third older Mac running Firefox 2.0.0.16 — same problem.

Your problem was user specific and it should be fixed.

So, what is the fix for logging on with Firefox?

So, what is the fix for logging on with Firefox?

You can check my post in the online central area of what fixed it for me. Basically it was an issue with "cookies" as you were able to post this question, my guess the fix for you will be something like deleting the cookie from the old forum and letting the new cookies in from the new forum upgrade. Hope this helps, Gary

Finally figured it out (thanks for the tip Gary).

Just had to clear the cookies in Firefox. Now I don't have to use that nasty Internet Explorer anymore!
