I purchased 50 W halogen billet lights for my 08 R1200RT. I have seen several types of installations. Has anyone experience with drilling at hole through the fairing plastic. I thought a grommet might reduce any chance of a future crack. I did see one post where this was used but not sure about cracking over time.

The PIAA lights I bought included two small brackets that required drilling each upper tupperware side panel for a well nut -- the place where the hole was drilled was a reinforced area and there has been no cracking yet.

I mounted my KC smaller rectangulars to steel rod brackets that bolt to the fairing steel frame, via under the 2 corners under the oil cooler part of the fairing, keeping the clearance from the front fender suspension / turning travel. I didn't have to bore holes into my fairing side panels that way.
