Since last summer the fuel gauge on my 97 R1100RT will not drop below 3 bars. I have removed the tank and cover plate to access the fuel level sender inside the tank. The float does not appear to be getting hung up. Using a multi tester it appears that sender may have failed- (no continuity in the lower range) Has anyone had experience with changing the sender. The manual suggests changing the whole plate that holds the sender, fuel pump, fuel filter, etc.

I have not yet called a dealer to seek technical asssitance or price the plate.

Any comments from the collective wisdom?

John, there are two fuel level sending units in your RT's tank. The Float-on-lever one attached to the access plate and the other is a sending unit assembly tube coming in from the top right side of the tank, you can see part of it with the right side panel removed. Check that its not kinked and that nothing is binding inside.
