whats the deal with those teddy bears?

I saw several bikes this summer with teddy bears either strapped to the trunk or to the back seat. The bears were usually on goldwings but sometimes on harleys. I dont think I saw any on beemers. So why would a grown up person carry around a teddy bear with them on the back of their bike?

They cant find a woman to ride with them and feel lonely I guess.

I've seen little stuffed dogs, kitties, one lady even had a stuffed Pee Wee Herman (that was cool). What's the deal? Is this the equivalent of the stuffed animals we see in the back windows of cars? Any other meaning?
