Vancouver, WA is a suburb of Portland, OR. It is very damp through winter here. It is usually ice free during the winter, with the lower valleys only getting an occasional dusting of snow that doesn't stick to the roads. This doesn't hold true to the hills or the mountains, where passes are regularly snowed in and even the west hills over 500 ft in elevation can be treacherous. I ride essentially year round, but where I can go is limited during the coldest months/
Having said that, last winter the city was shut down for a week+ with snow and ice.

In Vancouver you will have about 2-3 weeks of unrideable weather due to ice or snow.
If your wanting to ride to work in the early morning then there may be another couple of weeks that you shouldn't ride. In the winter you can have a nice day riding as long as you don't try going up in elevation. Even if it's dry out most mountain roads will have wet or icy spots where the sun never reaches due to trees or the hillsides. The wet spots will teach you all about the cohesion of moss to tires. Just stay in the valley. Oh, and good rain gear is a "Well Duh" must have.

You'll also find yourself lusting after a bike that's good for unpaved roads.

I don't commute to work, so early morning weather is not a issue for.
My job let's me live anywhere in the country. I just enjoy riding year round like I do in TEXAS.
Scott,,
Great picture I like that, tell me that was in January, and not August. I was in PDX in January 2004, I got there the day they shut the airport down, and then was snowtrapped in the house for 2 days... not fun.

That depends; how well do you ride in the rain? How much do you like cool/cold weather? Where do you plan on riding to and how often? :dunno
Now, with that said, I live between Olympia and Tacoma, WA. I ride year round on a GS to Seattle and elsewhere. There are days when I drive, mostly for my personal safety (weather related-ice/snow, dense fog and that kind of wet misty rain that sticks to your face shield without blowing off). But, most of the time I ride, because you can get in the HOV lane and get somewhere. :clap
You will experience colder weather down south and the roads tend to freeze more often, but the weather is dryer most of the year. So it's pretty limited actually as to parking it in the garage. There are some great roads out to the coast and lots of really "cool" places to ride the remainder of the year.
Washington is a motorcycle riders paradise if you've got good riding gear, and good riding sense. Welcome, you'll have great fun on two-wheels. :wave
The best part; compared to riding in Texas, (I lived in San Antonio for a year) is you can wear your riding gear year round without over heating. :twirl
P.S. If you haven't already done so, buy a "Signal Minder" relay so you can use your turn signals as extra lighting. They make great fog marker lights for others to see you better. It's legal in Washington to run amber lights front and rear as long as your other lights are working too. :thumb
