I took these pictures earlier today in Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium. Sorry for the lousy photos... I was shaking too much with excitement! List price with VAT is 15,850 Euro or $20922! BMWs, in general, do cost more in Belgium, but still!

Wow - nice shots! Maybe since you found this one "over there" they will soon be "over here". I'm not a big fan of the current "edge design" so popular with both cars and bikes - the "edges" often seem arbritary to my eye. Still, it's an attractive bike and probably looks even better in the flesh like the R1200GS does.

NO PROBLEM!! I'm sure with some flat stock, a welder, and a bottle of tequila we can make it very distinctive. What version of WindJammer do you want? :lol

Greg,

It does, indeed look better in person. I wasn't allowed to sit on it but i got pretty close and it "feels" really light and small. Of course I ride a K1200LT....

The rear light HAD to be inspired by a baboon's butt.

Thanks for the cool shots. It's nice that we have reporters all over the world!

Very cool. My wife saw the pictures and said I can get one after I get an LT for her to ride on :stick

I really like the magnetic "change tray". Is there a cupholder?

Ahhh geee - 20k, guess I will have to cancel my order.
It is a beeee-yewty. Personally I like the "baboon butt" tail light, but then I have always shifted in my chair at the sight of a tight baboon, he confessed guiltily.

I fear this bike has it's nickname already - Baboon Butt. :doh

Eeewwww. . . . With that mental Rembrandt burned into my lobes, I won't be able to follow one. On the other hand, I probably won't have a choice. :brow

I think it looks more like a tongue sticking out. As in ha, ha can't catch me...

Folks - this thread has seriously gotten off-topic. This forum is for discussing the K series bikes, not what you like or don't like about R bikes.

As of right now - I'm closing the thread. If anyone has a reason that I shouldn't please email me directly.

The thread is reopened.. I didn't follow it well enough once the photo of the hex-head showed up.

Mea'culpa..

for the rear view, i gotta say i see a tongue more than a baboon butt. it's rolling stones-ish to me. i predict that soon the rear view of this bike will be used as a pseudo-rorschach test. "i see my mother smashing the flaming toaster with my favorite baseball bat!"

IMHO, the tailpipe is too low and offset for it to be a baboon. :D too incongruent for my mind to make the leap. cliffy, you may be working too hard. ;)

anyone want to posit the point of shaping the light like that? increased surface area, so for a given average intensity per square inch, it appears brighter? brighter from above, below, and both sides? somebody shed some light on the subject, illuminate us with your brilliance.

I like to think the design of the tail light is reminiscent of part of the female anatomy, but then again I do spend a lot of my free time thinking about female anatomy. I love college!

First time I've ever heard of the bike getting "monkey butt". :doh

On second thought, the Rolling Stones tongue idea sounds pretty interesting. I think I can see a patch now (big enough for a jacket back), with a red "tongue" (that looks like the K12S tail light ala Rolling Stones) in the center of a circle, around which it says "BMW K1200S - You've just been licked by the best!" :lol

As for why it looks like that? Styling - shape only for the sake of visual pleasure. My guess is that at best it is function netural.

Looks like the K1200S is still a concept bike...

BMW suspends launch of super bike - again
Dealerships are in the dark, and critics are unimpressed. Tim Luckhurst on the difficult birth of the K1200 S
07 December 2004
BMW Motorrad's new superbike, the 165bhp, 175mph K1200 S, has been withdrawn from sale until March. Although launched to the press in July, BMW says this delay is "necessary to resolve technical issues that have arisen after an intensive test and development programme". The company blames a "defective manufacturing process of a third-party supplied component" and says that a camshaft has been made "to a lower standard than BMW specification". Dealers have been asked to "suspend all K1200 S riding activities until further notice".

Sounds like the statement Major League Baseball made about the Washington Nationals this week.
