Fellow K100RT Owners! I have a 1985 FYK100RT. Wonderful engineering feat IMHO. But, those speakers have got to go! What's the point I continually ask myself of having a radio that you cannot possibly hear, unless of course your putting along at 25 mph! So, my question is: Is there another OEM dash panel that does not have the speaker holes but just a plain panel that will fit? I do not know enough about the early K100 series to figure this out. I have already removed the antenna and have found a suitable plastic body plug to fill this void, and have also removed the OEM radio/tape player; nice to have the extra storage space too. I am just wondering if there is a panel out there somewhere that doesn't have the speaker holes; just flush. All advice will be very much appreciated!

Over this past winter I have done all the required maintenance, not knowing the history of this new to me 61,000 mile bike. Oil, filters (fuel and oil), new Bosch plugs, rear spline lube(both final and driveshaft...piece of cake)...also cleaned every single electrical connection, added Hyperlites, front and rear, and more than I can remember...ready to rock here in Vermont!

Thanks very much!

God! What a fantastic machine!

Try Beemerboneyard.com
I got a replacement panel from them for my K75RT and the price was reasonable.

Radio on the '85 wasn't standard equipment - it was a dealer installed option. The panel the speakers are mounted in had to be cut out by the dealer to install the speakers (that you can't hear - and no one could..)

An unmolested panel may be rare - but bet there is one out there. A fleamarket ad might turn it up, as might a call to some BMW wrecking yards. Or new if you have the $$$.

How about a lower cost and easier solution? I had a 87 K100LT that had 1 speaker and a hole for the other and no radio. I removed the speaker, took some 1/8" thick abs black grained plastic and made speaker covers. They looked great. Wish I had a pic of the dash, but I don't and no longer have the bike.
