I am having a fit trying to get good am or fm reception from the radio on my 09 r1200rt. The normal local stuff that I recieve fine in my cars is almost non existent on my bike other than 1 Mexican station that is loud and clear. Operator error?

Hi Pete, welcome to the forum. I'm going to move this to Hexheads for better responses.

Maybe the antenna is not fully plugged in to the radio? Just a thought...I had one on my '05 RT and the antenna was an issue the few times I even tried using it.

I'd go back to the Dealer first. They've seen this on K12LTs I'm sure. There is an adapter cable between the antenna wire and the radio on my RT. Either connection could be at fault. In my case it was the radio itself, which I finally had to replace.
If you must do this yourself, the adapter cable connection is beneath the right turn signal at the base of the antenna. The final connection is on the radio itself.

Hi Pete and welcome to the forum. My '05 R1200RT had the same problem. The dealer had to replace the cable from the antenna to the radio because of a manufacturing defect. As Ricoshay said let the dealer troubleshoot the issue.

Thanks guys.
The wrench at Chicago BMW was a little hurried and uninterested when I brought it up at the 500 mile service. I sort of felt blown off, processed and felt a little dumber. I figured I would eventually figure out how to use my radio. I like the bike and the ride. The radio has failed to impress me.
Back to the dealer it goes. guess I:scratch will ride somthing else in the mean time.
